Oil:rage - ow Item—Villainy seems to bo rampant .
No sooner has the excitement attending one stabbing
affrav than others follow it in rapid succession. Sat.
urdai evening witnessed two of those disgraceful
occurrences—the first in this city, the other in Alle
gheny.
The first was an unprovoked and murderous as
await upon an old man from the 7th ward, named

The other occurred in a tavern in Anderson wee!,

his house, when, shortly after 12 o'clock, three row

. The New Laurance Law.—At the last session of
the Legislator° a bill " relative to foreign Insurance
Companies' was Introduced by N.. 13. Browne, a Sen
ator from Philadelphia, which passed both branches,
-was signed by the Governor, and went into operation
on the first of July. This law requires all foreign
Insurance Companies doing business in this State to
have a paid capital of 8200,000: and to make a de
tailed statement of their affairs for the past and pre
sent year, to Do filed with the Auditor General. I t
the statement is satisfactory, a license is then issued
to each agent annually, upon the payment of each
year for the county of Philadelphia $2OO ;
ny and Lancaster each $1 SD ; all other counties each
$lOO. and a state tax of 3 per cent., on the gross re
ceipts of each Company, without regard to profit or
loss: This law is very burdensome on foreign Coal
Panies, and wilt succeed in driving all, or nearly all,
of them out of the State. To show its onerousness
we would state that its tax, including the ucesseery
expenses, on the...c.tna. of Hartford, C..unectlew, -
one of the safest Companies with a iery
capital—is equal to about '22 per cent. on it, actual
business. The Agent in this city, we see, notitit, all
persons holding policies iu the Insurnia, , C. sr

continued business in this city, and withdra so fr...in
the State. All outstanding poises are ron.td..tet

A Reverend Politirinn RottgAlN liandlrd.- They
had a regular Fourth of July celebration at t . larit•.
vine, Mercer county, which was participated in be
citizens of all parties. There was nothing, to mar
the festivities except a political tirade introduced lo
a rave:and gentleman named 13artars. Note
standing his meek calling, the people shut him op
in a very short time. We extract from the Weever.
Press:
" He commenced a regular abolition, disunion her
rangue, and so thunder-struck were the citizens that
ho had proceeded some minute.' before they could do
Bide what course of action to take. He went on
far as to speak ~f 'the murderous villain who n•'n
occupies the chair as chief magistrate of the corn
try,' when a simultaneous yell of indignation non
from all parts of' the assembly, and intimated to the
reverend reviler that be had exhausted their endu
rance. Cries of Knock him clown ' throw him off
the platform!' followed, and for a time it scats
ed as if the disciple of the meek and lowly .4.: tie
might find what be would call ' murderous a illage,s,'
nearer home. Ills few friends vociferated loudly
about the 'freedom of speech;' hut the citizes
present, without distinction of party, were cou.pe
tent to distinguish between 'free speech' and !re,•
hitiokriardistn, and compelled the worthy exemplar
of Christian love and charity to nit down. 'lllO

most universal; indeed there is scarcely a family through, , nl

Then of what immense importance to this class of Invalids
that a errata and reliable remedy should be placed within
their reach one in whirl, no baneful or injurious drug en
ters Into its composition : a remedy on which the patient can
rely with the utmost confidence and certainty, and be meowed
from actual and tangible proofs that the article he ix using

is "HOUILAND'S GERMAN BITTERS." Thousands of
dollars have been expended in its manufacture and diffuelon
throughout all pars of this continent, and the proprietor
feels the greatest sutisfaction in stating that there Is nu
state. county, or even village, where the Medicine has been
introduced, that there cannot be found numbers willing to
testify to Its virtues.
It is need constantly in the practice of a large number 4,1
the most prominent Physicians In the country, who have
also added their written testimony in erldince of Its great
virtues. In conclusion, then. we would respectfully ask of
all those afflicted with any of the above diseases to give the
Bitters a trial, and rent assured it will never be regretted.
In proof of the statements above made, all are invited to
read attentively the Almanac published annually by the pr.,-

of the Bitters, from the most prominent and well known in
