TONICS WON'T DO!—They never did do more than give temporary relief and they never will It Is because they don't touch the cause of the ollsealie. The cause of all ague and bilious diseases Is the atmospheric poison called Miasma or Malaria. Neutralize this poises by Its natural antidote, and all disease 1,118t.11 by It disappears at once. Rhodes' Fever and Ague Cure is this AnUileie to Malaria, and moreover R. Is a perfectly harmless modieine. Th e certificate of the celebrated chemist, J. R. Chilton. of New York, to this effect, is attached to every bottle: there fore if It does no good it can do no harm. • This is more than can be said of Quinine, Arsenic, or stay tonic in existence, as their use Is ruinous to the constitution stud brings on Dumb A.hue, which never allows a peream to feel perfectly well for a single moment. In illustration of these truths I annex some extracts Portia letter just received from a Physician: Groaorrowsr, Ohio, March 17, 1866. JAS. A. RHODES., Esq.—Deer Sir: Yours of 2d inst. is at hand. The Cure arrived late lest year and the difficulty in getting any one to try It was greatly Increased from the Act that a remedy had been introduced which was growing in favor with thn public, as being better than using Quinine —not knowing I presume that the remedy they used to escape taking Quinine, contained the drug Itself! This remedy, known am Smith'. Tonic, would inveriab y break an ague, but It did not cure it, as it would often re. turn with renewed vigor. This our circumstance I deemed In your favor, if I could institute a test comparison between it and your Cure. The follow lug is the remit Three persona took your Cure, all of which were cases of Quotidian Intermittent Fever, of many weeks standing. They had tried Quinine, and other remedies, occasionally missing a chill, but It was (as in all such outs, slowly wear. lug them out, and laying the foundation of other and ore, rer maladies. I did succeed in • Setting a radical cure of all threw of these case, with your remedy, and they have not had a &HI since. In all three of throe cases the Smith's Tonic had been used and would, as before stated, break the chill, but alter a period or two had elapsed it would return. I think there will be no difficulty now in giving to 3,tir Cure the vantage ground of any other remedy now In use here, kr.. Lc. WILLIAM DUCK NKR, M. D RLIODES' FEVER and AGUE. CURE, or ANTIDOTE TO MALARIA. the only hannieisa remedy in existence, is equally oesioln as a PREVENTIVE, an a CURE. Take it when von (eel the chills coming uu, and yuu will never have a single one.. Burrette.—This evening has been Set apart, at the Theatre, for the benefit of the good looking and amiable Treasurer, Mr. V. J. Borrette, and his estimable lady. We hope our play-goers will respond heartily to their claims, and give them a bumper. Mrs. Borrette, in the pe culiar !line of characters which she personates, has but few superiors, and deserves tonight a generous recognition of her efforts and assiduous attention to please. Always perfect in her part, mid nearly al ways correct in her conception of a character, she never destroys the harmony of a play by frequent demands upon the prompter—as is too often the case with stock actors—or forcing upon au audience an unnatural interpretation of the author's ideas. This, we believe, is the first occasion that an opportunity has ever offered for the frequenters of the Theatre to testify their appreciation of her merits, and we will be much disappointed if a crowded house dues not greet her to-night. S. JAYNFA The Birminyhum Pic-Nic.—We are requested to inform our readers that the time fixed for holding the pic-nic for the benefit of St. John's Schools, Bir mingham, is Wednesday, the 18th inst. We are told that very extensive preparations are being made to render this one of the most agreeable efforts of the kind yet attempted, and we assure our friends that they will have a very pleasant time of it. The plate selected for the occasion is the orchard, above the Male Orphan Asylum. It is convenient to the city and easy of access. The ferry boats will run every ten minutes, so that the inconvenience of waiting tor omnibuses will be avoided. A fine band of tuu.,ir will be in attendance to enliven the scene. The performers, without an exception, wore grace ful and agreeable in their deportment. The select performers displayed an appreciation of the beauti• ful. combined with the force of sentiment seldom evinced on such occasions. The original essays rend by the young ladies, in elegance of style, in depth and purity of sentiment, and in variety and choice of expression, would have done honor to the bright est star in the galaxy of female writers. Neat name the original orations which, in beauty of composi tion, in terseness of logic, in force and originality of idea, would have convinced the must sceptical and bore down the most ultra opposition. The Comicks were resplendent with wit and humor, and the dia logues struck Some hard bits at the poppies delu• shins of the day. The exercises were enhanced by the sweetest sounds of music, as discoursed by the Bavington Band. We congratulate Mr. Dixon and his pupils on their complete success on this occasion, and hope the unanimous applause bestowed by the audience, will be some recompense to them fur their efforts to please. 44 -Every Day brings forth some new evidences of the virtues of DR. JUNE 17 WAsitrunros. June Brown sub mitted a re,ollition, which was adopted, calling on the President, to communicate a copy of the instrue. tions to Mr. Buchanan in relation to free ships ma lc inc free goods. and Mr. Buchanan's letter to the Earl of Clarendon on the same subject. Mr. Clayton said it would be remembered that he bad carefully abstained during the present session from uttering one word calculated to add to the ex citement growing out of the present distressing , eurrences in Kansas. He had endeavored to con ciliate all parties, in order that he might, on some suitable occasion, present a measure of harmony, justice and peace. He now rose fur the purpose of making the proposition in the sincerity of art hon e st heart, desiring to propitiate no particular party or section. He would not present his bill as a partisan of any candidate for the Presidency, but, like the sailor, he desired to go in a gang by himself. He was the representattve of a little State, which octet-- pies mitldie ground between the Northern and South ern portions of the confederacy. The Northern county of that State, with 50,000 inhabitants, searre ly has 100 slaves. The Southern is as grossly pro. slavery as Georgia.
