There Are artists—t be fact is familial to their brethren—who have painted their whole lives long, and thought them selves very goo.l colorists, who have yet never been able to distinguish properly between cer tain r01m,.. This petinnarity is sail to be by no means rare, and it probably exists in different persons, WIRW laboring wider a total inability to distinguish certain tints from each other, and others discriminating imperfectly This latter is doubtless the c.ise with all colorists in paintitig. Sir David Brewster published, in 18'29, in the Edinburgh Journal of &Ullug an account of two remarkable cases of this kind, and iu 1844 gave his •• tni.,ervat:Ats en Color-Blindness "in a sgp -33101 work. The same year Professor Wart mann, of Loni•dalia, published a 10 emoir on Dultonism, naming the infirmity from an English , whysician, Dr. Dalton, who had the peculiarity in a remarkable degree. We have now a wqrk, recently published at Edinburgh, by Dr. Wilson, a laborious scientific t. , :ootchuntn, entitled Re searches in Color blindness. The following pas sage trout the review gives an idea of the e.x.ent to which this defect prevails, which will be pew to not of our readers :—•• Till within these few years this affection of the eye was stipperseti to be confined to ei small number of Odlvidutils ; I but it appears from the calculations of various authors, that one person out of every fifteep is color-blind. According to the experimenti of Dr. Wilson upon 1,184 persons at Edinburgh in 1882-3, one person in every eighteen had ibis imperfection. lin 85 confound red with green; 1 in chi confound brown with green; 1 in 46 con found Mug with green. Hence, one in every 17-9 persons is color-blind. It is a curious fliet, land ono now placed beyond a doubt, that color, bhnd . ness is hereditary and runs in families. In wane cases five and in others fifteen individuals or the same family bare been color-blind, and in e 4 far as experiments have been made, the imperfection is more common in males than in females." There is one important practical appliattion which Dr. Wilson makes of the facts collected by his researches. He draws the conclusion that the'lise of colored signals on railways is exceed inglydangernue. 'Discs, painted white, red and green, are used for signals by day, and white, red and green lamps by night. The use •of sig nals which are of colors which very many per- S01:19 are not able to distinguish from each other, is manifestly abinrd and dangerous. The use colored signals by sea; is subject to the.aame ob jection. Ix. is said that:the Commissioaership of Ped BiOAS will be tendered to J. 'lte price of the silk is five francs a pound when spun, heing one hundred and twenty francs cheaper than that of the present day. This now Method of procuring silk will at once be adopted In all countries, as the mulberry can be grown in tiny country, and requires scarcely any culture. rho cultivation of this new brunch of industry will do away entirely with that of cotton, so that lavery will have a natural cause of abandon iment in the United States, little anticipated at the beginning of the century." They help one's own good nature and good will. Soft words soften our own soul. Angry words are fuel to the flame of wrath, and make it blaze more, fiercely. l(i1d words make other people good natured. (Ad wards freeze people, and bet words scorch them, and bitter words make them bitter, and Iktratbful words make them wrathful. There is, such a ruzh of all other kinds of words in our days, that it seems desirable to give kind words a chance among them. There are vain words, sand idle words, and hasty words and spiteful words, and silly words, and empty words, andpro f:.ne words., and boisterous words, and warlike arils. Kind words, also produce their' own im age on men's souls. And a beautiful image it is. They emooth,. and quiet, and comfort the hearer. They shame him out of his sour, morose, unkind , feelings. We have not yet begun to use kind words, in such abundance as they ought to be used.— A 1)4 , .UR NIMENT or CosollESS resolution, in tro•iuced into the House of Representatives on. Monday by the acknowledged leader of the Ad niiiii, trittion party, provides for the adjournment of Congress. on the fourteenth day of August, nearly a. month before the ordinary time. After brief discussion, the proposition was rejected by a rote of Ri to r.,7. The entry of the entire transaction on the journals occupies perhaps not more than a dozen lines, and if important enough to attract the attention of future antiquaries, it will doubtless suggest the merely cursory remark that a large but ineffectual minority of the 24th Congress proposed to expedite business and cur ' tail the sessions, and were promptly silenced by the majority. TeADR AND BUSINESS were never more flour ishing in Philadelphia than they are at the pre sent time. The streets, wharves and railroad stations all give proof of an active and thriving business. The newswers have been ahnosteu tirrly appropriated the use of trade, and columns of advertisements fill the space usually devoted to news and editorial comments. 'rho advertisements contain, however, as valuable practical information for the public as could be furnished from any other tourer'.
