Our Weekly, issued to-day, we set down a our model number. In no number has there es •r been more interesting news from all quar and its commercial and editorial columns Imve been got up with unusual care. For sale xt ullr Counting Hoorn. Franci. I'. Blair, Esq., was chosen President of •• liepuldican Convention yesterday. lie hails I. •m Maryland now. Ile was formerly editor of Wa,hington Globe, and an intimate friend of l„ne•ral Jackson, teas rather a singular sight to sec a friend a Old Hickory, and a Southern man, presiding or a Convention of Abolitionists. There were lit two or three Southern men in the Conven tion, and they were all put in otfices of sonic hind. Talk about the Democrats truckling to the S ,nth. The Abolitionists beat them ill hollow. li - there had been but ' , se Southern man there tdey would have made him President. Jackson's editor, in his extreme old age, may be there, but J tekson's spirit nu longer animates hint. No thunder is stolen by that move. Jackson CI. by the Union and the Constitution at all i. arils. Sectional parties and nullification he abhorred. We wonder how Mr. President Blair 1i . ..0h the sentiment of the Illinois orator who de (+tried that the froe State men of Kansas must npheld in resisting the laws of that territory LI all hazards. The people of South Carolina tesolved on srar rebellion when Jackson was ' iicsiden t: a , .eksun proclaimed them traitors. Mr. Blair was the first to publish that proclama tdin. and enthusiastically applaud it. Mr. Hall, of New York, in his speech in th, evening, admitted that New York city had giver: lout 7,11011 out of 70,01 a) votes for the Republi can ticket. lint then, he argued, there war something lucky and magical in the number 7 : and hence he predicted, like Micawber, that something would yet "turn up." Preston King, of New York, thought this war " a great day for this country"—perhaps the greatest since the Declaration of Independence. Ile made .iuite an argumentative speech to show the gradual encroachments of the "slave power. - Mr. King was particularly severe upon John C. Calhoun for his able efforts in behalf 01 the "slave power." Of course, Mr. Calhoun did not reply.' Mr. Hall eulogized roundly the "Odes (.1' Horace." (Greeley) and the " Rhetoric of Blair." Mr. Blair looked pleased at the pun. [lonics had gone to Mayer, it was said. PASSMOBE WAS THERE. Passmore Williamson was in the Convention in the afternoon, with whiskers on. lie produced quite a sensation, of course. The Convention has made all possible capital out of the materials at hand. Passmore can't speak. lie was intro duced as " the victim of Cain," and the assembly expressed their pleasure at seeing "the first martyr," by applause and laughter. He is a modest young man, and very "slender." Tlll NUMBER ERESENT. Lafayette Hall will hold eight or nine hundred people. A thousand may crowd in, and perhaps that number were there in the evening. But there was at no time a demand made for a lar ger hall, though one three times as large could have been had within two squares. The hall was well chosen for the purpose. There are certainly a number of able men pres ent, but they are not likely to set the Ohio river on fire, or even to throw it out. PITTSBURGH POST. OUR WEEKLY INCIDENTS OF THE CONVENTION THE PRESIDENT. =EN Greeley made a speech in the Convention N,,terday before dinner, in which he cautioned the members to say and do nothing to exasperate alienate the know Nuthing•i. We suppose he t rites back all he has said in the Atheme against th.m. Ile has lashed them in unmerciful and ',measured terms Does he retract all that, nod hag pardon for his sin. If nut let him not be oigiven. Now is his time for repentance if his arty wants a fusion with the K. N.'s. Mr. t;reeley's personal beauty, graceful manner and rilliant eloquence are the subject of general re mark ! The Convention, however, keep him in the background. lE= Rev. To the PerNioe.sr of the United States The foregoing are the documents that show the complaint and representation on which the action of the Federal Government is taken, and the nature of that action. But in addition to these, several documents are published, the substance of which may be briefly stated. nu the 2Sth of November, Governor Shannon wrote from Kansas, representing that the free state men had formed a military organization for the purpose of resisting by force the execution ~r the laws ; that they had rescued a prisoner from the Sheriff; that several houses were burned by them, and cattle killed, and corn and provisons destroyed, and women and children driven from their homes. These things excited the Missou rians along the border, and the Governor, appre hending bloodshed, called on the commander of Fort Leavenworth to come to his aid with United Stites troops. lie refused to come without or ders from the proper authorities at Washington. (In the Ilth of Decembr. the flovernor again wrote to the President, giving a more favorable account of matters, and subsequently that the danger of immediate collision was over for the present. Other letters set down the population of Kan cos nuw at 30,000. CIVIL WAR FALSEHOODS So anxious arc the opponents of the democracy to get up a civil war in Kansas that they stick at no falsehoods to promote the dark and villainous purpose. Among the last falsehoods put in cir culation through the Republican presses is a story that the President had directed Governor Shannon to arrest all the members of the Assem bly of free State men called a Legislature there. That story contains not one word of truth, as the published correspondence shows. THE North Western Insurance Company of Erie, it seems has blown up. The Waterford haratch says so, and calls for a statement of the affairs of the Company speedily. HARPER'S MAGAZINE for March is received by Miner & Co. and Gildenfitmey & Co. The Chairman said the paper was not in or der. Motions were made to appoint a committee to investigate the charges, to go on with the busi ness, to adjourn Bimido., tic. , &c. Great contu sion ensued. Appeals were made to avoid the introduction of distracting questions.
