Pa redes—The 'Country Pronounced in favor of San ta .lina—His Arrival at Vera Crws—.llnnexation - - - - of the Californias to the U. States: Through the politeness of an eminent commer cial house, says the New Orleans Commercial Times of the 24th ult., we have just been placed in possession of the following most importapt intelli gence from Mexico, The news was received by a British man of war, that touched at the Balize, with despatches from the British Minister at Mexico for his government The purport of these despatches is that the United States hare taken possession of the Californias, and that the revolution in favor of Santa aina is Complete. We publish the following letters, from which it will be perceived that the steamer Arab, with San ta Ana on'board,-was in sight of Vera Cruz on the 13th inst. Vera Cruz, August 18, 1846. Availing ourselves of the opportunity by a Brit ish Man-of-War, we have just time to state that Mexico and Puebla have just pronounced for Fed eralism and Santa Ana. Gen. Bravo's government had hardly been estab lished when it was overthrown, and Gen. Sales has put himself at the head of the movement, until the arrival of Santa Ana. Tranquility was soon res tored. Gomez Farias aided the partizans of Santa Anna, to bring ahout the revolution. His sons have come dawn here to give welcome to Santa Ana, who left the Havnna on the 4th in a British steamer called the Arab, accompanied by A I monte, Tamariz, Rejon, and Beenes, and Elim, ought to be here every day. Gen. Paredes was taken pris oner and is kept in the citidal of Mexico. Gen. Sales had issued already a letter of convocation of Congress on the principles of 1821; and the mem bers are to assemble at Mexico on the Rh Decem ber next. The •present conveyance carries the news of the Anneiation of California to the U. States. - - - . Received last night by express at the British consulate. rera Cruz, ,log. If, , 18-111. Ads-ices have been received by e press of the for • mal -ilonexatioa of Texas to the United States. And this vessel of war takes the British Minister's des patches to New Orleans and to England. The whole country has declared in favor of Santa- Ana who left Havana, but had not arrived, which makes his friends rather anxious for his safety. I'. S. The Arab just in sight. The New Orleans Picayune of the 12th Aug., in a pastcript says that the British brig of war "Dar ing" arrived off the ilalize last .Ivening,, from Vera Cruz, and two of her officers came up to the town this miarnitg with a mail and despatches. The steamer Arab arrised off Vera Cruz, on the lfith August with Santa Ana on board Ile immediate ly placed himself at the head of the movement in that department. The departments of Puebla and Mexico have declared for Santa -Ana. and Paredes has already been taken prisoner. The revolt at the capital was headed by Gen. Sales. &flue Santa Ana lea Havana he took letters from Gen. Campbell to Commodore Conner, and avowed himselt; in reply to some inquiries as to hislntentions, as follows: "If the people of my country are for war, then I am with them: but I would prefer peace." News has been received in Mexico that Monte rey in California, Las been seized by one of the vessels Of the Pacific squadron. Another account says that all California has yielded to the Ameri cans. The steamship McKim arrived from Brazos San tiago at an early hour on Sunday morning, bring ing dates from Point Isabel of the 17th, and from Cama&m, the present headquarters of the army, of the nth inst, The news by this arrival from Matamoras is not of great moment. — Col. Clark has succeeded in re establishing order, in the city, by putting into exe cution the ordersqlietated lot that pryer: by Gen. Taylor. • Capt. W. L. nail, of the Kentucky volunteers, is supposed to have been murdered by the Mexi cans on the roed between Burita and Matamoras. Another :Mexican depot of arms has been round in MatamoraF, and a:quantity of stores and am munition feiZed. The regiment of rangers, under Col. Jack Hays ar d Lieut. Col. Walker. left Alatamoras about the 10th inst. on an excursion into the interior. The precise route to be taken by them is not known. and will depend probably upon circumstances. We hope to be kept fully upprised of the movements of this corps, to which great importance is ail:ltch ed in the army. The 2 1 / 4 1 regitnent of dragoons which is cnnipo sed now of oply 4 companies with about :;75 tots has abandoned its encampment between l'oint Is. abel and Pod. Williams , Select School, NORM East corner of Federal and Robinson streets, Allegheny,. will commence its Fall session on Monday the 31st inst, TESTINONIALS From Pro fruor R. H. Ler, Washington College, and Having attended an examination of the school taught by Mr. Williams, we take pleasure in bear ing our testimony to the evidence afforded by it of the unusual skill and labor of Mr. Williams: The understanding of the principle of the subjects which the scholars had been studying, shown by their clear answers to questions asked by others than the teachers, prove the excellence of the New England "modes of teaching, in which Mr. Williams seems to be proficient. It. IL LEE, J. WISIJART, &c. From the Ref. Mr. Preston, Doctor Hunt, 4.r. Having attended an examination of the Select School under the care of Mr. Henry Williams, held recently in his school room, corner of Federal and Robinson streets, Allegheny city, we wish to call public attention to this institution. We were highly gratified with the progress and order of his school.— This manner of simplifying and illustrating the dif ferent branches is peculiarly happy, and well calcu lated to give interest to the pupils. His mode of teaching them to read struck us as novel, and one that cannot fail to make good readers. From the knowledge that we have of Mr. Wil liams' character as a teacher, his zeal, fidelity and success, we cordially recommend him to the patron. age of the public. His location is elegible for both cities. DAVID HUNT, RICIPD BARD, P.MVO BEESON I attended the above examination, and can truly say I was much gratified with the attaintment of the pupils. - WM. Read the following Certificates, all of which are authentic; all the persons therein named aro now living, and well known in Cincinnati: CINCINNATI, July Ist, 1846. Sir: Having been cured of a very severe disease of the eyes and head by the use of the American Oil, I feel it my duty to the public, as well as to you, to send you the following certificate: I hereby certify that I was severely afflicted one year ago last winter, with inflamed sore eyes and a very severe pain in my head from my eyes up to the top of my head, and continued so for several weeks. My eyes were so much inflamed and sore that I could not see to attend any business, nor could I tell one object from another A few yards Rom me. I called in a physician, but still got worse. I also tried a good many remedies that had cured others; but in my case they failed. In April, 1895„I heard of the American Oil. I procured a bottle'h n d be fore I had used a half a bottle I was entirely well, and still continue so. I will not be without it in my house as long as I can get the genuine article. I also gave it to one of my men that was working for me', that had the fetter in his-hands so bad that when he would grip anything tight in them the blood would burst out, and the use or lialra bottle cured us both. I would advise all that are afflicted in any way to give the Oil a fair trial, and 1 think they will be pleased with the effect it will have, Sze. CINCENNATE, October 10th, ISt:5. This is to certify that I have had a sore leg for six or seven years. It was sometimes so bad that I was not able to walk. I have employed several physi cians, and tried a great many remedies; some would relieve me for a while, but nothing that I have tried has done me so much good as the American Oil, which I applied externally and internally once a day. When 1 commenced using the Oil my leg was swell ed very much and was a very dark purple from my knee down below my ankle joint and had lost pretty much all feeling, and the ankle joint was stiff so that I could not move it; before I bad used the Oil three weeks my ankle joint was loose and my flesh a natu ral color, and it ta now entirely well. I have recom mended it to several of my friends since, and it has proved geed in every case. I would advise all that are afflicted to give it a trial% for I have used it fur other complaints besides my leg, and it proved good. (1. 11. Il ltA t.' 115111, Walnut, between 13 and 14 eta. CINCINNATI, February 15th, 1849. This is to certify that I was nfllicted with a disease of the head; one sive of my head commenced swell', mg and was very painful, and very much inflamed and sore. My left eye was entirely closed up, and I could scarcely see any out of the. ether. It had been so for about two weeks, and getting worse dai ly, when I commenced the use of the American Oil, and to a lbw days the swelling had nearly all disap peared. My head is now well. I have used it also Mr sore throat, cholic sad cuts. I 'but fully satisfied with its healing virtues. I used it by taking it inter nally front a half to a teaspoon full night and morn ing, -and bathing the part affected two or three tames a day. I do believe it a good medicine, and would the advise afflicted to give it a trial, as there is no danger in using it. JAMES MADDOCK, Sycamore street, north of Canal.
