Wo learn from a passenger that Gen Ampudia nr rived at Matamoros on the 11th instant, with 2000 troops (1000 cavalty and 1000 foot) which would increase the Mexican force to about 5000, and bad notified Gen Taylor ho must abandon the position he held. or it would be considered paramount to a decla ration of war. On the 12th, Ampodia fortified himself opposite to Gen Taylor's camp. On the 13th, Ampudia again corresponded with Gen T., and informed him that he would not act further until he received positive eiders from his government.
