Philadelphia, Jan 6. lt 16
DR. D. JAYR6.—Dear Sin—Justice, compels mo
to make the following statement of the est 'merlins ey
effects of your valuable medicine, the ALTERA
TIVE.
I certify that my wife was afflicted, fur fourteen
years, during which time her disease baffled the skill
of several eminent physicians. Finding that every
. means that were used failed to relieve her, I canclu
ded to place her in the Pennsylvania Hospital, hoping
that, under the care and treatment she, would there
receive feom the Physicians in that institution, she
might again be restored to health. But lo my great
disappointment, she grew worse and became deranged
in her mind, and. I was ohligedtotake her home a g ain,
4.tacunente and BEREFT OF REASON. Iwill
- here mention that at.this time the more prominent
symptoms of her disease were Dyspepsia and Liver
Complaint, attended with sickness of the stomach,
and vomiting of a very offensive fretid Mucous, pains
in her bead, bark and stomach, and through the region
of the heart, a vonbleaotne cough from large quanti
ties of phlegm in . her throat, which kept her coetirot
ally gagging and retching to throw it tip. She hod
no appetite, and was very weak. She also sacred
very much from a uterine disease by which she was
confined to her bed, having entirely lost the use of
her-limbs, and for several months we had to lift her
in and out of bed And to all the above,, deranged
state of her mind (which at this time was truly awful,)
.and you will be able to form some idea ;of her afflic
tidhs,
• By the advice of n friend we commenced giving her
I
your ALTERATIVE, in the doses of a teaspoonful
kbnie times a dui, and found that it helped heir. We
also gave her your Vermifuge, to increase her appetite,
l and- the- Sanative Pills w regulate her bowels. She
had not taken two bottles of the Alterative, before it
toperitted upon her in a wonderful manner, fillibg her
face with small red pimples, and caused her to expec.
tests large quantities . of corruption, before which, her
. breath was so offensive we could not remain in the
mom with her unless the doors were open.. Finding
the Alterative doing her so much good, twe increased
.The,dose according to the directions, and She continued
to improve daily, untilfinaily, she was restored to health
to body is well asin mind.
1 hope you will delay no time inlaying this before
the public, as t an willing to be qualified at any time
to the truth of the above statement, acid dist it wasyour
ALTERATIVE which cured her.

BY LAST NIGHT'S MAIL.
Throo DitysLator from Etuypo.
By the arrival or the packet ship Northumberland,
we hava.dates from Lander' to the ith of March.
The latest dates' from the U S were to the 16th Of
Feb by a vesiel arrived at Havre, carrying out the
commencement of 'the 'debate on the Oregon question
in the U S Senate
The British GoVernment were preparing to send
out large reinforcements to India.
The steemet Grent Liverpool from Gibraltar for
England Was loot off Cape Finisterre on the 24th Feb ,
three passengers lost.
Thehostile character of the intelligence received
from Washington, via New York, is referred to by
most of the Parisjournale. Some of them calculated ,
on hostilities between England and the U S. Others
—La Presse, for example—"thick that, niter all,
there will be no war." But the general feeling woo
one of apprehensiqn.
The passage of the 'Notice' resolution in the House
created much excitement in England.
The Dock and Navy Yards in Eviand were most
busily employed ia filling out vessels of war.
The Government of the Sikhs was making every
effort to renew the War in India. Several attempts
had been made in different places to cross the giver.
The London Tines' money market article of the
Gth, says:
The market for English securities was depressed
this eftMnoon. In the motning on appearance of
weakness became evident, but it was more severe to
wards the close of business, a rumor then being cur
rent that u message front the Qieen would ha receiv
ed by the House of.Comatons to-night on the subject
of America.
The London Chronicle by two or three editorial
articles on the Oregon question, and the telations of
England and this country. On the sth it noticed the
passage of the resolution of notice in the House of
Representatives and commences its comments upon
the fact by saying that if the notice be adopted by the
Senate "there is but a faint prospect of an amicable
settlement of the Oregon question." 41 alludes to the
assertion that the passage of this resolution is tuxes
inry as preliminary to negotltion.
It proceeds at some length te show that the reason
ofthe exaggerated demands made by the United States
is, that they suppose England will make aey sacrifice
for the sake of peace. This is said to be en error, and
the Chronicle asserts that England never will agree to
any line of boundary north of the Colombia.
