MEMPHIS Co6IT , :aTioN. -1 here wan a very large meeting on the 27th Oetutwr, at Cincinnati, for the Purpose of appointing Delegates to the proposed Con vention at Memphis. The Ut.inst of the 30 , h says: "The meeting was a most Animated one, rind the rep tesentation present, was mathe up fro n out mercantile community—the businew men—ohs take a deep con cern iti thin matte,. The signers to the' Cull" were gentlemen of n or arid substantial worth in society-- nisi:ll men as we can th•pend upon to link after our hes t interests. A spirit of hat-ninny pervaded the deliber ations of those who cont coed together .n the above occasion—and we have seldom met so loge a body of men together, of all potties, who were so unani mous in sentiment and feeling upon the important sub ject which called them together." The meeting appointed liftv Ddeg3ll.s, with pow. er t o fill vacanc ie s . Tire people or the west seetn to be thoroughly aroused to the importance of urging up on the next Congress the necessity and jtistiee of nta • king liberal apprnpriations for river improvements, tic. The western and southern states will all be rep resented in the Memphis Conventi.n, and we doubt not, much valuable information w ill be collected arid arranged. and many very valnuhle suggestions be pm in proper form and shape Co- the consi.ietation of the people's representatives. We briefly referred to thi s su lj, c t a f ew i t, son, anti expressed the opinion that it won very imptirtant that Pittsburgh should be represented; she was rep, seated in the first Convention, and we hope measures will be taken at once to secure the attendance of Del egates on the 12th of November. We beard this Convention denounced in the streets a few days since, as a southern project—that it had fur its object a union of the south and south-west, in opposition to the northern interests; and this was as signed as a reason why Pittsburgh should not send Delegates to Memphis. We trust but few of our cit izens have taken this view of the suhjeet—it is certain ly a very erroneous conclusion, and if urged. n ill do inealcaluble injury to the brit interests of Pittsburgh. At the time we heard the above ohj•ction urged, we regarded it as the opinion of a single individual, we aid not dream that any considerable portion of our people cherished similar notions, and it may be that but few are opposed to the Memphis Cunventinu, but why is it that no measures have been taken to op point IMegstesT Why is it that no move is male in the mailer ? The Board of Trade, usually invites the attention of the people to such subjects, why is tha t body silent on the subject? We complain. and with reason too, of the short sighted and selfish policy of the people of us beware that we do no: give cause for well grounded complaints against ourselves—if we expect the country round to act with us—to pursue a liberal and enlightened policy, we must cordially unite with them—we must practice upon the maxim, `live, and let live."
