W e learn from the Washington Union, of Aug, 27, that the last arrivals from Aransas bring no communi cations from our camp to Washington. Transports were arriving with fresh troops to reinforce Gen Tay lor and his "army of observation"—though the shal lows of the shores frequently obstructed their prompt arrival and immediate landing. Befora this period however, the general must have an army of more than 2,000 gallant men, exclusive of the dragoons which were marching under Col Twiggs to San Anto nio or the Alamo. A tittle longer time. and General Taylor will be able to muster more than 5,000 picked regulars—without saying a word of the volunteers of Texas or of Lnuisian, which he is authorized, if ne cessary, to call under the wing of Iris eagle. With arms and amonition, and with pros isions sufficient to support them, there is reason to believe that they will be able to cope with, and to conquer, any force which the Mexicans may attempt to throw or, this side the Rio Brzno. Their troops, too, will be compelled to march through a country which has no means to sub sist them; and the transportation of their own provis ions, if they are able to obtain them at all, v, ill encumber their progress, and delay their arrival at the point of destination. One of the best and L'!lirst officers in the service has exprossrd the epi , don. that 2,000 United States soldiers, under General Tnsfor rind Worth, will be competent to keep nt bay any numher of Mexican noeps who may threaten to cress the river, for six mw,ths. In this calculation he may possibly be mis taken, and it becomes the duty of our g,overnment to provide ample means to meet any emer , ;•vncy khich mny ocrur. The adrni , istratioll is deeply Unpleased with the dut y of mahirg every precautionary pr,..pnta non which the 110110( Of our arms may r. Although the regular troops are advancing to the central point from vdtioos qua , 'ere of our Country. it is yet somewhat doubtful bow many volunteers will go on from Louisiana. It is cert ai n that General Gaines has modified his original rerpii, itiow, but it is yet doubtful in what sense he has modified his cull up. on Gov. Mouton—a hother to reduce the niimber of volunteers, or to change an absolute edl 11, the field, into a bare older t, hold themselves in readiness. Sperolotinn is , ill at a loss to comprehend the real designs of the Mex Hit - el—if, indeed, they have formed any. Some of oar politicians here insist up.', it, that the AAnr will evaporate in smolso? Bro, still. it is not the ..afest policy to act upon that uncertain calculation. Prudence is the mother of .1 - if.o; and we should art in the sHrit of that maxim. There may be little lamer in beatirg the :11exienns: but the disgrace will, there for e. be the greater; if we suffer ourselves to be beaten by them. We ought to art us if they were certainly coming upon to. No lahor— no expenditure of money should be mgtirded, when put in the oppo-ito snide with dishonor and dr feat. The chanrei may be a gainst whir. But Mexico may act utalor the level ish exciteme nt or n clamorous people, or under the rid°. nn ry hope of calling in England and France to meditate between a,, and !hen interposing their guarantees to any boundary whirl, th , y may attempt to cludAi-h, not recollecting that it wid not rudy be neee,-.ary for her to agree to 3 mediation, and for Lilo., two powers to accede to it; but still tore, for the United States to sanction the moveinentg herrnreietit NEW ORLEANS CIRCUS!
