Persons who desire to build or to make secure investments in property that is sure to advance ih value, and part irulat ly these who intend to erect manufacturies, would do well to view these Lots, and examine the shaft, before purchasing else where. The survey for the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road and the tail road survey by the State of Penn sylvania were both made alongside of this property, and it is generally considered that Brndlinrk street, or the ground immediately alongside of it, affords the onlyeligible route for a Rail Road from Pittsburgh to the East. The N 0 Courier, in noticing the requisition made on the Governor of Louisiana fur volunteer troops, says that, beside, the U S militia and regular troops that are to be sent to the frontier of Texas, the militia of that Republic will also be held onthe alert. By a resolution of the Texan Congress, passed on the 26th of June, the President of Texas is authorized and re quired to call into service the militia or a volunteer force to such an extent as he may deem expedient, in case it May be necessary to repel any Mexican troops that may invade, or attempt to invade, the territory of the Republic. In this samo resolution the Govern ment of the United States is invited to occupy, with out delay, the frontier of the Republic with such troops as may be necessary ft r Eta defence. The Courier thinks that, under the previsions of the law above quo ted, Texas could on a sudden emergency, mire at least five thousand troops, brave and hardy riflemen, and better adopted than any others for operations a gainst a Mexican army. So that, in view of the ac tivity displayed in preparing for the crisis, it is not probable that there will be a deficiency of force to meet any emergency. The New Weans papers. of the 18111 last, received last night, represent the military arrangements in that city for a Texas campaign to be progressing finely.— The Jeffersonian Republican says: ' 'The finest spirit is pervading the military of this city. Volunteers will be receive d into the regiment of Louisiana Volunteers, and the officers in four compa nies will be elected by the new volunteers, and all va cancies will be filled by the votes of those volunteer ing. This iv an elegant and most liberal nrangement. Officers ore in constant attendants at the head quar ters of the regiment, by order of the gallant colonel, to confer with volunteers. We predict for the regi ment n brilliant career, in the service of their country, A hand of bolder rind tritor spirits, under accomplish ed and experienced officers, sever mustered under any fl ie. • "As Anon as the 700 men ore obtninerl, the regiment will enter nt once into the service of the U Stroes.and be despyched with all possible expedition to Texas. The regiment will be armed with rifles. "Captain Ferno, commanding the artillery of the Washington Regiment, has one full company ready, and is recruiting another. They will probably sail for Texas on Wednesday. This plant and patriotic (A cer deserves the Iligl;est credit for the zeal he has ex hibited, and whose honors are to be won, neither he nor his command will be in the rear. Mnj Gallier's fine Artillery corps has also been put in requisition, and will likewise leave on next I Vednesday. "That splendid corps, the German Pagers, have volunteered their services, and are making active pre paration in anticipation of being called into service It is. we believe, the strongest company in numbers in the city. and we understand, are almost to a man, ready for the word to march. `'The'rerlr.isition is for 1.500 men. It is presumed, 1 . however, that a mach greater number will be wanting. The impressio n that the volunteer, are wanted to sup ply the place left unoccupied by the II S troops. is cr- rone•nrs. The troops a ill be sent to Texas as fast as they get ready and the means to send them can be oh- I mined." A letter to the editor of the Chat leston Mer cury, dated Ilavana, Aug. 14, says; _ "The American consnl has excited some surprise here by his conversations on our relations with Mexi co. He states with apparent confidence, that war ex ists between the U. Slates and Mexico. That the committee "(the Mexican Congress had reported in favor of the loan of $15,000,000 asked by the Minister of Foreign Relations, that orders had been given and approved by the war committee to march the troops (said to be 8000) nearest the frontier ten leagues cast of the Rio Bravo, there to entrench themselves and resist any attack made upon them.
