KENSINGTON IRON WORKS.
THC Dnitsr DISTRICT.—In our detailed notice
hflenteeday; relative to the progress made in rebuild
ing the bunt district, we did not, as we remarked.
ineinde Pipetown; or as we should say, more proper
lir Kensington. We have now to state, and we do so
with great pleasure, that the extensive Rolling Mill,
*waittoted in that place and known as the KENSING
TON IRON WORN., owned by JOHN FRICKNAN & Co.,
aid which was b,rnt down at the great fire of
the 10th of April, has been rebuilt, and put in opera-
Itiale—tim first lot of iron having been manufactured
itesterday. The establishment is now entirely cover
ed with iron, and the exteneive additions that have
been made to its capacity, and in its machinery, and
in'renewing and refitting its various parts, render it
one of the most extensive and perfect concerns of the
Maid in the spuntry. We hope it will always continue
HP sustain the reputation which it has long enjoyed
Sir manufacturing first rate iron and nails.

From the N. 0. Picayune, July 29
FROM TEXAS.
By the arrival, on Stinday evening, of the regular
steam packet McKim, Capt Phillips, we have Galves
ton dates to the 24th instant.
The Hon C A Wickliffe, late Postmaster General,
staved by the McKim. Ile hns traveled as far as Aus
tin, and, we learn, expresses himself highly gratified.
The ship Constellation, from this port, arrived tit
Galveston on the 24th instant.
The fourth of July was celebrated in greet style at
San Antonio de Bexar. During the day. rho United
States flag was flying from the steeple of the church
—e strange event in the bloody history of the place—
and at night a grand ball was given.
There have been no Indian disturbances, although
it is thought that the Cumanches and other tribes
are little disposed to continue friendly. They will be
set right when they ace the United States dragoons
and other troops upon the borders.
A letter pbblished in the Galveston News says that
each of the committees was industriously discharg•
ing its duties, and the writer thus speaks of the mem
bers:
'I have not know any body of men superior to this
in decorum, and temperate and conciliatory deport
ment towards each other, or ono that seems more desi
rous of doing their duty honestly and faithfully.'
The same writer further says:
'Tho Comanches have left their station above us•
A trader who had lately visited 'hem, told me thnt they
had forty odd Mexican women as prisoners, and many
of them young and beautiful girls, forced to the embra
ces of the savage monstets Whet an outrage upon
humanity, and how the heart revolts at such scenes!"
Above we have given every item of the least inter
est. All accounts agree that tho priepects of good
crops or texcellent, stud that crowds of emigrants are
daily pou:ing into the country, seeking lot the beat
locution.
Fame P ENS Aeol.A .—Our correspondent, tinder date
of the 26th instant, info: ma us that the -loop of war
Falmouth, Commander Sends, sailed on the 25th in
stant, with insiructions for the St Mary. which went
nut to convey the troops that left this city recently for
Texas. The remainder of the Hyoid ion are momen•
Eerily .s.perting orders to sail; but the Somers will

FROM THE AFRICAN COLONIES
Interesting and Important—Piracy by n British
Constmander.—The New York Sun has its regular files
fmns Monrtnia, Liberia, to die. 10th of June exclu

The British authorities perrist in their. hostility to
our colonies. The only vessel belonging to /he colo

seized by the British man-of-mar Lily. and conveyed to
Stet rut Leone, - &he sold as a prize! She belonged to
Stephen A Benson, and wasengaged in the coast trade
when seixe.l , l3th April. The officer in charge of her
at the time of seizure, rerpiestcd the British com
mander to respect the colonial flag, to which he replied:
'•I don't recognize your colors; yon are no nation;
neither are you underthe patronage of any nation
The authority that granted you your pa perm 11 not a
mcogized one; and whet right has the d—ri Yankees
to place colonies on rhe roast any howl Your °ides I

This is * heartless outrage lipon a feeble colony, bat
in keeping with tile infamnui character of English
policy. One of the cteroof the John Sm. i.

The object of the seizure appears to he the dt struct ion

This work contains the best prodtert ions of English
law authors, without regard to priority of claim on
the part of any American publisher. Such books are
now notoriously too dear: The reason is, that as fast
RA they appear they become monopolies in the hands
of booksellei-ii in the Atlantic cities. Under the plea
of right acquired by the addition of notes of Ameri
can decisions, the latter claim an undivided title to
those works, and set a burthensome price on them.—
The publishers of the work now offered to thei-pmfes
sion throngout the Union:- wilt not respect
but will re-print the standard British istvltmski
fast as they eMinate from the London merk9t .. Should
new editions of the works of such writers as 'Statile.
the Chit tys, Stephen and Archbold, appear, they shall
also be included: and Digests of Equity and. Law de
cisions—works which hare been studiously kept out of
the Law Library published at Philadelphia—shall
hare a place in the proposed new one, together with
every new valuable English treaties on Chancery or
Common Law.
W'Thia work will be issued monthly in numbers
of 160 pages, printed on fine white paper and goad
new long primer type, at seven dollars per annum,
payable half yearly.
