FROM TEXAS.
By the arrival, on Stinday evening, of the regular
steam packet McKim, Capt Phillips, we have Galves
ton dates to the 24th instant.
The Hon C A Wickliffe, late Postmaster General,
staved by the McKim. Ile hns traveled as far as Aus
tin, and, we learn, expresses himself highly gratified.
The ship Constellation, from this port, arrived tit
Galveston on the 24th instant.
The fourth of July was celebrated in greet style at
San Antonio de Bexar. During the day. rho United
States flag was flying from the steeple of the church
—e strange event in the bloody history of the place—
and at night a grand ball was given.
There have been no Indian disturbances, although
it is thought that the Cumanches and other tribes
are little disposed to continue friendly. They will be
set right when they ace the United States dragoons
and other troops upon the borders.
A letter pbblished in the Galveston News says that
each of the committees was industriously discharg•
ing its duties, and the writer thus speaks of the mem
bers:
'I have not know any body of men superior to this
in decorum, and temperate and conciliatory deport
ment towards each other, or ono that seems more desi
rous of doing their duty honestly and faithfully.'
The same writer further says:
'Tho Comanches have left their station above us•
A trader who had lately visited 'hem, told me thnt they
had forty odd Mexican women as prisoners, and many
of them young and beautiful girls, forced to the embra
ces of the savage monstets Whet an outrage upon
humanity, and how the heart revolts at such scenes!"
Above we have given every item of the least inter
est. All accounts agree that tho priepects of good
crops or texcellent, stud that crowds of emigrants are
daily pou:ing into the country, seeking lot the beat
locution.

Interesting and Important—Piracy by n British
Constmander.—The New York Sun has its regular files

The British authorities perrist in their. hostility to
our colonies. The only vessel belonging to /he colo
nists of Bussa Cove, the scnoorier John Seys; has been
seized by the British man-of-mar Lily. and conveyed to
Stet rut Leone, - &he sold as a prize! She belonged to
Stephen A Benson, and wasengaged in the coast trade
when seixe.l , l3th April. The officer in charge of her
at the time of seizure, rerpiestcd the British com
mander to respect the colonial flag, to which he replied:
'•I don't recognize your colors; yon are no nation;
neither are you underthe patronage of any nation
The authority that granted you your pa perm 11 not a

to place colonies on rhe roast any howl Your °ides I
deem good for nothing."
This is * heartless outrage lipon a feeble colony, bat
in keeping with tile infamnui character of English
