Ou air outside form will be found a poem en. tided "Isadore," by Albert Pike,—"A Queer Object" —"A fair bet fairly won," and other interesting matter. tarlVe are indebted to Mr H ILLN DS for valuAle Legislative documents. Tat WEATHER fur the last 48 hours has been such as we usually have in mid-winter. Warm overcoats are ; decidedly comfortable, and the gentlemen who havedefed their winter toggery and come out in "sea eonableelotbing," because they think the "spring time of the year is coming," have a most cold and miser able aPpearince. Every body is sending forth lamentations fur the fate of the fruit. The warm weather that preceded the present "cold snap," brought forth the buds very rap idly, and many of the peach trees in the neighborhood of the city, were in full bloom. The had frosts of the last, two nights, have we think, fixed their fate, and we are very apprehensive that it may have likewise injured to a great extent, the arple and cherry buds, which were also very forward. ORbcritits —James Benny, Jr., has a fine assort ment of family Groceries at his new store, Liberty street, which he will sell at very !educed prices. nr'Much censure having teen cast on the Rev. Thoth*ld Mathew for incurring liabilities which he was' not able to discharge, Mr Joseph Sturge has writtan to the papers to explain that Mr Mathew hnd b en prom's 41 by a rich relation a large sum of mon ey, but that relation soddenly died intestate, before the amount wag paid. D ia r y of 1 the "nostrums" of the present day are put out by persons litho have no know ledge of the science of medi cine in theory or practice, and in order to hide their ig norance cry out loudly against the "Ignorant Pretend': tea," and bribe others to boast for them, which oft times has gulled the turanspecting. and for want of a proper knowledge of the diseases they pretend to core. no doubt think they cure when they do not, therefore they are to be pitied, but not half an much as those who take their "miserable compounds," but they not only lose their money, hut miss the advantage of 'bat ne cessary advice which the real practical physician, is always able to give. We look to the tailor for an im provement in the mode of drew to the medical man for an improvement in the science of medicine—and this accounts for the great superiority of Dr Swayne's Compound Syrisp of Wild Ckerry over all other medicines ever offered to the public for the cure of all diseases of the Lungs and Breast, Cough., Colds, Consumption. Asthma, Spitting Blond, Liver Com plaint, Pain in the Side and Breast, Broken Constitu tion, &e.
