It takes strong ground against cap ital punishment. nr Tbe Cincinnati Times wastes a whole column in puffing Professor. Bronson, the man with the Mani kin. irumbuit must be attractive in the Queen city. 0:7 As Artificial Arm has been made by Van Pe terson, a Dutch sculptor, which is a perfect triumph of art. The committee of the French Academy, have seen the invention upon five mutilated individuals, and among whereupon an invalid, who has been deprived of both arms ever since the wars of the empire, and who, by the aid of two artificial arms, took with his hands a full glass, carried it to his mouth, drank from it without spilling a drop, and then replacing the glass upon the table from which he had taken it. The same disabled man can pick up a pin, take hold of a sheet of paper, &c, RELIGIOUS NOTICE Bible Christianity, the only protection a trainst scant. Mutual Insurance Company, PITTSBURGH, MARCH 18, 1845. FIRST ANNUAL REPORT. THE fiscal year of this Institution ends on the third Tuesday of Mai :h, having been in opera tion about ten mouths. The Board of Directors for the past year, submit to the members the following report: Commenced issuing policies 18th May, 1844, No of Policies issued, 470 Amount of property insured, $1,043,743 67 Amt of premium note., 51,757 84 OPO per cent. to be added as capital stock, a. per Sec. 11 of the Charter, Policies surrendered, Leaving Insured, Cash recd 5 per ct. oti Pre mium notes, for Policies, Refunded on Premium notes, Paid Expenses printing, advertisii,g, books, pta- U4rll3ly, Paid for labels, Office rent, Professional advice, Agents ■nd surveyors, Contingent expenses and sale- ries, Office furniture, Balance of cash in' hands of Treasurer and agents whose accounts arc set tled quarterly, The success of the Company s o far, is highly flat tering. Those inusuring houses of Brick or Stone have paid 11 of 1 percent.—whereas, in a Stock Com pany they would have paid of I per cent.; on build fogs of Wood and exposed, the cost of Insurance has been of 1 per cent , in a Stock Compnny. it would have been sto 1 per cent. The manufacturer and property hazardous hes paid pr. et., in a Stock Com pany would have been from to 2 per cent. The aggregate saving to the members of the Com pany bas been at least $6OOO in premiums for In. entail:Me. The ability of the company to pay all losses that can reasonably be expected, is no longer problemati cal, and while the capital of Stock Companies re mains stationary, the capital of this company increases in proportion to its liabilties. In a company of this kind, which is mutually to pay each other's losses by fire, and at such trifling expense to each individu tl. the directors feel confident that owners of property will no longer leave themselves without Insurance, but unite in giving their support to an Institution fur mu tual benefit.
