THE PRINTER'S DOOM. THOMAS MACHILLAR. A printer, weary and wan, His face all mortally pale, As he wearily plodded his homeward way, /adore the breaking of early day, Broke oat in a bitter wail. His voice was husky and low. As though his voice were gone; ILA be embed and gasped, and ceughed again, /Late pressed his hand on his hewn in pain, While thus his plaint ran on: "A world of toil is this ! it bath no joys for me: 'Tislaboriky say, and labor by night, 'ay the light of the sun, and by candle light— Labor continually, "Some men have a day of rest, But Sabbath for me is not: fit is toil all the week, and toil on the day That God -has given to rest and to pray— Lo'l this is the printer's lot! "When I was ahoy," he said, "I played on the hills of green; 4 swam in the stream—l fished in the brook— ItudViessed was I to sit and look fUnfeuered on Nature's scene. "'or twenty sari years or more, My life has worn away In murky rooms of poisonous air, Uherel've yearned for a sight of a valley fair, And the light of open day. "An innocent prisoner doomed, My heart is heavy within; SOb, Why should a man untainted by guilt, Who the blood of a creature never bath spilt, Be pent, like a felon, for sin?" The printer then coughed and sighed— The stars were growing dim. Ami be upward glanced at the morning sky, = Argi he Mil thought it were good to die, And death would be rest to him. His heart was tired of besting : He prayed to the Lord above To pity a man whose heart had been riven Xs toil, for other men's interest given— ' And he wept for His mercy and love ide hied to his humble home: His infant awoke to cry, Oh, father! Oh, mother! I'm hungry for bread!" And the printer bowed down with an aching bead On his Mary's lap to die. Oh! ye Who have never known The richness that's in a crust When nothing is found on the desolate shelf, And the sufferer's pocket is empty of pelf— Receive my story on trust. Say not in your careless scorn, Wbatboots the tale to you! qbefisymer *he traces these roughly writ rhymes *lath known of such sufferers in other day times, And the main of his rhyme is true. Remember this holy truth— The man who aloof path stood When a heart-broken brother fir succor did crave P►nd he stretched not a finger to bless and to save, Is verily guilty of blood! Consumptives, read the Wonderful Cams performed by Dr. Swayons Compound liyrup of Wild Cherry. The wonderful cures performed by this invalusble medi cine, in Pulmonary Consump• tion, Coughs, Colds, Asthma, Bron chitis, Influenza, Whooping Cough, Croup, Spitting Blood, Liver Complaint, Pain in the Side and Breast, Tickling or Rising in the Throat, and all diseases of the Lungs, and Breast, have excited the astonishment of all who have witnessed its marvellous effects; there is no account of a medicine, from the earliest ages, furnishing a par allel; the almost mirrcu lone cures effected • by this extraordi nary medicine •are unprece dented. IMPORTANT TESTIMONY. SersYse,Oear Sit:—ln last October, while en vsged with Mr Joseph Smith, in a saw-mill near Waynesburgh. I was attacked with a cough from be ing exposed at night, which gradually increased, at tended with spitting of blood, and a severe pain in the , breast, loss of appetite, fever, &c. &c. which was -scarcely supportable. I had a family who were whol ly dependent on my exertions for support, yet I was obliged to leave my business and return home. I was then attended by several physicians, hut still grew worse, until my medical attendants gave me up as en • incurable. Subsequently, my wife observing, in one of ,Jthe public prints, an advertisement of DR. SW AYNE'S 'COMPOUND SYRUP OF WILD CHERRY, pro cured me one bottle from Francis M'Clure, your agent in Lewistown, which relieved me; I continued until I had taken five bottles; I am now able to return to my work again. I write this to offer you my sincere ;wanks, and you are at liberty to make tb , s known, so 'that if any human being is suffering as I have been, 'They may have recourse to your invaluable medicine. Its power in reduc ing both chronic anti acute inflamation, also in remov ing spasms, is certainly very great. This stove is pro nounced superior to any other now in use in the United States; it is more durable in its construction, and bet ter adapted to the use of baking. roasting and cooking, as it is heated very regularly by confining the air in the stove; and it is a great saving of fuel as well as tuber. I will keep on hand a sufficient number to sup ply all demands if possible; I have five different sizes, and will sell them on reasonable terms, according to sizes. I have now in use upwards of fifty in and about this city; all r ut in use within six months. GP I embrace this opportunity to meowwind the Hot Air Cooking Stoves; I have used the one you put up for me constantly all summer, and I must say it is a grand article. I believe it is superior to any other stove now in use in this city.
