The Paris correspondent of the National Intakes*. eer, under date of November 1, says: "The court of maize has been engaged for the tea days past, in trying forty-one culprits, ea masse, ar raigned for sixty-one robberies. This trial has yield ed twenty to twenty-five columns of piquant matfett. the journals; but, owing to a ministerial ordinance which narrowly limits the number of female auditor% there is less of the compound dramatic than the 're. porters could wish. The prisoners are called the brigade of the faubuurg St Antoine, as that was the beit assigned to gliem by the• commandant general in her widely diffused and numerous order. On the 21st instant, before the same court, appeared Ann Gaston.' Prince of Montmorency-Bobecq, of the superlative old aoblesse, on the charge of having, for several years. past, caused to be modeled, sold, and otherwise distri buted, busts of various sizes and materials of the duke of Bordeaux, "in order to propagate the spirit of rebel lion, and disturb the public peace." The court-room and its avenues were thronged with anxious legitimists, and on the idle cushion; several dukes and marquises, devoted to theanefent regime, were seated on the first benches before the witnesses., and tables covered with specimens of the busts, called pieces de cystic. tioa. The prince is a man of thirty-three years, neatly ,• built, with light complexion, and mustachios a la mode, and he carried himself cavalierly enough to. wards the bench and public prosecutor. He had Bev. ryet•, the great orator, as counsel; but be spoke two or three times in his own defence, in a struin, indeed. which might have served to convict him, and which provuked the president of the court to interrupt and rebuke him, though with little effect. Ilia main plea WWI the appropriation of the proceeds of the statuary business to a charitable society of St Louis, instituted for the benefit of decayed royalists, and others, victims Ito their zeal in the Buurbon cause. It is as notorious as human perversity, that this society pursues paha. cal ends, and that the busts were distributed (extrema bly. Direct evidence abounded. The prince decla red that be maintained an inviolable fidelity to Henry V.; he trusted that the society would obtain liberal sup port from the royalists; he denounced the police for rifling his drawers, and breaking open his sealed Pack ets, in their domiciliary visit. Berryer dwelt on his noble client's illustrious name, coupled, for eight cen turies, with that of their kings; he adduced various mis erable subterfuges and hollow pretexts, which have al ways seemed to me to degrade the legitimist party; at the same time,he set the Duke of Bourdeaux himself la the most attractive lights. He extolled to the skies the whole exiled royal family. "Ah! gentlemen of the jury, this is not the first time that the appellation of Henry V. has been given to the heir of our sixty kings; it dates from 1830. when the titles and dignity of king were duly transferred to him by Charles X. and the Duke of Angouleme. The fifth of the Henrys cannot be other than Henry V. We may rightfully give him the name here; and when we are reproached with cherishing hopes, we answer that these belong to the interior man foro eoreacienties; and it is lawful for us to entertain, though the press be forbidden to express them." Notwithstanding two cogent speeches of the attorney general, and the force of :be circumstantial proof, and the ostentatious legiti macy of the accused and his advocate, the jury pro nounced, after a consultation of five minutes, a verdict of acquittal! The prince left the court, with Berryer . by his side, and a numerous escort of leaders of his party. A bodyguard of operatives in costume follow ed him to his carriage. This affair begat a transitory elation among the legitimists, and a spirit of persever- ance in the manufacture and hawking of charitable emblems. Juries are so uncertain in these political cases, that no party can expect or employ verdicts with any effective confidence. In every instance of prosecution, the legitimists improve the OCCileiolll to emblazon their fidelity, and the deserts and claims of their dynasty, and they appeal in particular to the people against the present rule. THE CHEROKEE CAPITOL. The Cherokee Advocate is a paper recently estab► ' fished at Tahlequah, the capitol of the Cherokee Did lion, 18 miles East of Fort Gibson, Arkansas. It gives the following description of that place: - Our Town.—At present every thing about our Town is life and animation. The number =of persona called together by the annual session of the National Council, though not sogreat as on some similar occa sions heretofore, is quite considerable. Besides the public officers, Councilmen, Judges, Clerks, Sheriffs, &c--there are many others in daily attendance, some of whom are called hither by business and others by a curiosity to see and hear what is occurring in the na don. Tahlequah, the place whence we hall, is situated some eighteen miles east of Fort Gibson. It became the seat of Government of the Cherokee Nation in 1239, after the re-union of the Eastern and Western branch. es of the Cherokee family. The location of the town is central and beautiful, and embalms advantages of good health, excellent spring water, and a plentiful supply of timber for firewood and purposes of build ing. Tne surrounding country is, in our opinion, of surpassing beauty, presenting* diversity of mountain, woodland and prairie which extend* within the town reservation, afford luxuriant grass, which is a good substitute for hay, Ind as much land of productive quality as will be required in many years for ag ricultural purpoinsr by those wishing to lire "in town."
