Mr. D.'s professional Came is very exten sive, and he is persoanlly known to tr.any of our citi zens, by whom he is highly esteemed. He will no cloubt have a good house. Mr U proposes, if sufficient inducements be offered, to remain in the city for a few weeks, to give instruc tions on the Flute. LIBEL HERON FOSTER, 161.0 editor o. the Age, was yesterday convicted in the Court of Quer. ter Sessions, of a libel on the Eton. it. C. Gault, Judge of the District Court. Mr. Alden, his co:lsmael, admitted the publications, but attempted to quash the indictment on the ground that the article, if a libel, was not one upon Judge Grier, but upon Judge Patton. The Associates, who tried the case, overruled the mil. tion, and the defendant wan, of course, convicted. SUIT/ACC or DtEHL.—Judge Pawn* yesterday sentenced Charles Diehl to imprisonment for twelve years in the Penitentiary, for the murder of his wife on the Ist day of April last In passing the sentence Judge P.. remarked that be entertained a very l igh respect for the decision of Juries, but thought that, in this case, Diehl bad escaped the punishment he merited. He told him, however, that a bill would be sent to the tdrand Jury next term for the murder of his child, and that be must be prepared, at the expiration of his present sentence, to answer that charge. HAND STREET BRIDGE —We have heretofore neg lected to notice that the Directors of the Hard Street Bridge, have. as well as those of the old Bridge , re duced-their rates of toll. We have no doubt that this will result in increased revenue to the Stockholders. MAYOR HA T.—The whip have set about whipping this gentleman into the CLAY traces, intending to make a hot partisan •tf him. We do not know the prit ate views of Mr H. nor shall we say how be will vote fur President, but we are mistaken in the man if he suffers himself to be driven from his independent position by the weak electioneering tricks uf the AMERICAN and its correspondent. THL VoURTH OP JULY Itt PHILADELPHIA —The Philadelphia Ever.ing Journal gives a detailed account of the celebration of the 4th by the "Native Ameri can" party in Philadelphia. The names of the mar shals, and other officers are given. their banners and their devices are described, and the timitlicts of the various clubs are said to be accum:ely given. The aggregate of the iwirsons in the procession, including the delegations from New York, New Jersey, and other places, is set duwn at 4,600. There wer e several other celebrations in and about the city, all of which passrd off well. The Metcury says, that except the grand procession. the chty was rather dull. The Democrats had n large meeting in the State House Yerd. The Whigs and Tyler men each had a celebration. RECORDER'S COURT "Some Exhibition of Natural Magie."—Mr Vin t m was brought up on it charge of violating tho'cit, ordinances in relation to revenu••. The matter in dis pute was regarding the eabihitions recently given by Herr A.leaander. at Concert Hall, without license.— The jury in the case, however, acquitted Mr Vinton of having nny interrrt in the exhibition., othor titan the mere renting of his ball for the purpose before mention ed. Herr, Alexinder, the Magician himself. was then ar raigned on the same charge, and fined $2O and cost'. The name he bas„acquirerl, by the perfection of his nit, was not in the lent impaired by the rough hand ling of the law; for. immediately after he was fined, he steps up to Mr D the collector of the Third Ward, arid said to him, in his broken English, "I vill be ceramic!) oblige, ifynu %ill have de goodnesstu hand me my monish dot you have in your pocket, as I yams to pay de fine and udder irimmins."
