ectg 103ailp - Atoning post. I PITIABURGII, PA. MONDAY MORNING, JULY 1, 1844 PITTSBURGH BOARD OF TRADE. COMMITTEE FOR JULY. fang, J. Carothers, W. J. Howard DREADFUL MURDER IN HAYTI! About half past 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, the riotous and lawless conduct which has so lung charac terized the bleck inhabitanU of Hayti, in Pitt town ship; above the city, resulted in the death of a colored woman, named Etiza Moons. It appears that she andanother colored woman named SUSAN MAILS were at the house of Mehemet York, wherra few angry words passed between them, and York took hold of Susan and was putting her out of the house, when she struck over her shoulder, as it was at first thought with her fist, but which afterwards appeared to have been with a butcher knife, which stabbed Eliza in the left breast, causing a wound about 7 inches deep, of which she died in a few minutes. Der WATT and VAN HORN, who made a post mortem examination, describe the 'external wound as about an inch and a quarter long, entering the breast on the left aide, immediately below the clavicle, or collar bone, severing the sub-clavian artery, passing into the pericadium, or coverinc of the heart,%ntering the substance of heart, through the left Attricle.' Constables McKelvy and Dougheray arrested Susan, and she is now in prison. The Coroner's Jury consisted of Jas C. Cummins. Esq. Foreman; Bernard Dougherty, John Keating, W m Ferral, Sensual Ridge, Thomas Teekaberry, Thomas A. Rowley, Robert McAdams, Wm Neeper, James Harriett, Wm McWhorter and A J Grail**, who gave a Verdict that she cams to her death by a wound in dicted in the left breast by Susan Mails. AITEMPTED SUICIDE--A man named FISHER, while in a state of partial derangemsent, attempted to commit suicide, on Saturday, on Smithfield street, by cutting his arm with a knife. He was fortunately se cured before be made any dangerous wound. TRIAL or DIERL.—The case of Diehl, for the mur der of his wife and child, went to the jury on Satur day, about one o'clock, and they yesterday morning returned into Court, being unable to agree on s verdict. They were remanded back until this morning. Foist ♦ND DALLAS.-Mr Quigley has fur sale at This Book Store, sth street, Bioglnpltical Sketches of Polk and Dallas. MEETING IN MANCHESTEIL—Tho Pont and Dst.- LAS Club, of Manchester w ill hold a meeting at the frame school house in that borough. Several addres ses may be expected. RATIONAL AND BEAUTIFUL ENTERTAINMENT. - Besides the admirable Dioramic scenes and the al most incomprehensible Italian Funtoccini. I lanning ton this night brings out for the first time, the much admired and extremely effective Confla gration of Moscore,"judging from what we have seen, we doubt the Theatre's capability of accommodating his audience. We cannot help complimenting Mr H. on the very excellent enter invariably preserved; a ontinttance of which, with a change in his exhibition, cannot fail ensuring him full houses of the first respec tability. 'BINH REPEALEIIS IN MOTION AGAIN.— We per .Ceive by the Irish papers of New York that the Repeal meetings are to be revived. The nest is to he held at Washington Hnll to-morrow evening. A Brent effort will be made to collect the fine imposed on O'Connell, nind it is proposed that New York shall coat ibute the whole amount in anticipation of any other. There is so be a meeting also, fur the same purpose in Albany, .thi* evening SENTENCE OF THOMAS W DOlll4. Correquuulenee of the NTT rihune. N PORI ,R. 1., June 25,1814 Chief Justice Durfee this clay sentenced Thomas W thirr to hard labor in the State Prison for life. In this address to the prisoner the Chief Justice exhibited Itonsiderable e notion. The performance of a like duty would, he said. in any case, be extremely painful, but doubly so in the present instance, as he had in limes past enjoyed the intimate acquaintance and friendship of the prisoner. Mr Dorr made a brief awl somewhat bold address in reply. the substance of which was that, as lamenta ble ns his situation might appear to some, be would be very sotry to exchange it for that of the Chief Jug tic,. When Mr Dorr finished his address, it was very generally observed here that he had lessened his chan ces for an early pardon, by the tone and spirit of his remarks. EXTENSIVE FIRE IN BOSTON. Correspondence of the New York Tribune. Borros, Tuesday, June 25, 3i P. The wind, unfortunately blowing hard, from the S. The savare is contained between Washing ton, Deese, SeFulk and Garland s.reets; one house only remaidsag. Mick valuable furniture tins been sacrifice& suck was the rapidity of the flames little could be saved from each house. Boston has not teem visited with so serious a fire for years. The flames are now subdued, and there ere nu fears of its further progress. Loss probably not less than 1113(1,041111,, insurance net ascertained In leasse , yours truly, The Boston Mercantile Scurnal sore- Quarter past 2 ectock.—W II have just learned that the fire has creased Dover street, and that the brick dwelling house of Rev. J. T. Sargent and the Louse adjoining, en the north side of street. arc de stroyed. All the sheds and outbuildings in the rear of the dwelling house on the south side of Gatland street ate on fire, and it is impossible to say where the destructing will cease. Engines from Roxbury, Charlestown, Cambridge and the adjoining towns, are rendering all possible assistance. Marriage ofthe President.— HisExcel lency Joule TYLI6a was married yesterday to the beautiful Miss Gardner of Long Island. The ceremonials were per formed at the Ascension Church. in presence of a few of the President's confidential friends. The happy couple left the city yesterday afternoon in the Phila delphia train under escort of numerous friends.—N. Y. Plediaa. NAUVOO Rather Serious —We have later news from this place. The reports still indicate an approaching con test, and it will probably be a war of extermination The citizens are arming with the most deadly and de termined purpose to rid the country of their Nauvoo neighbors. The Mormons are preparing for defence; they have about 4.000 persons under arms, holding in their possession the public arms of the State of Illi nois, which were delivered to them some time ago. The fierce spirit of indignation that has been enkin dled against the Mormons in the upper part of Illi nois cannot be appeased, and nothing else but the spee dy flight of Joe Smith and all the leading Mormons, can prevent a terrible scene of bloodshed. The pep. ple appear determined not to await the tardy and time *nerving movements of the Governor of Illinois; and we may soon expect to hear of war. and bloodshed. Nauvoo is still under martial law, and boats are not permitted to land. The latest news from there was brought to St Louis on Friday night, and was to the effect that the allied would march upon the prophet, being some three or four thousand strong, on the next slay. Saturday last: The iMotitions are said to be al ready- short of pruvisions---Ciu. Cont. MuRBIOPr MATTIMS.—The St. Louis Reporter of the 21st Ult. Contains the following items: We have rectged nothing definite in relation to the Mormon difficulties. The people in the neighborhood of Nauvoo were organizing into military companies at the latest dates, and arming themselves for a serious conflict. They were not expected to make any attack upon Nauvoo, until the return of the messengers sent to the Governor, and when they return we suppose the law will take its way without bloodshed. A mandamus has been issued by Judge Pope, of Illinois, against the Nauvoo Council, for ordering the office of the Expositor to be dem3lished, and thus ex ceeding the authority granted by the Charter of the city. OBITUARY Again has the tyrant satisfied his vengeance in en tering the family and robbing the fond parents of their second and only daughter, CATHARINE EMMA CHM°. Iv !GER, who died on Friday morning tho 28th inst., in the fourth year of her age. Thus in one week have a father and mother been afflicted by the 101111 of two in teresting children. They repose ireone grave, thus verifyirg the language of the o ßible, "of such is the kingdom of Heaven. Suffer little - hildren to come unto me, and forbid them not." [Com.
