The first reviler meeting of the Association will be -held on Satordiy evening nest. Subject of discussion —Banks and Currency. Associations of this kiwi in the several wards end aisuicts of the county would be of much service to the cause, as they are excellent mediums fordisserninating correct information, and wculd be excellent channels for exposing the falsehoods that will be rescrterto by our political opponents in the approaching campaign. Such associations exist in almost every district in the east, and they are of incalculable advantage to the par. iy, and to their members. AN JXPOSTZR.—The Aboadonis? of this city have recently been grossly humbugged. A negro woman some time sidce arrived in our city, and appealed to the benevolence of our citizens to procure funds tc res cue her children from slavery. - Sbe stated that she was it native of Pennsylvania; that she had been kidnapped twenty years ago, taken south and sold into slavery— that the had procured her freedom - , but that her chil dien still remained in bondage, and she was now en. deavoring to procure their liberty. This story opera ted powerfully on the sympathies of the Abolitionist,. Meeting after meeting was held, speech after speech was delivered, and a •"darned fuss generally" made in her behalf. Collections were taken up in a number of our churches; and between four and five hundred dol lars were raised to aid het —when lo! it was discovered that so far from her having been a slave, or having children in slavery, she has been, for a great number of years a resident of Armstrong county, in this state! Great was the indignation of the Abolitionists at this disclosure, which was much increased when they dis covered that the 'bird lad flown.' They however, pur sued and caught her, and were bringing her back to the city, when she again gave them the slip at Sharps burg, and escaped. They succeeded, however, in re covering between one end two hundred dollars of the money from her, which we understand, istu be divided among the churches where subscriptions were taken "OLD Fuar DUQUESNE, II tale of the early toils, struggles and adventures of the tit st settlers at the fur of the Ohio, 1754," is the title of a new work laid up on our table by Mr J W Cook. This is, we believe, the first work ever issued from the press of Pittsburgh bye native author, end we are certain its typography, no well as iu contents, will favorably compare with any similar proditction from the et:stern press. To the gentlemen professors and amateurs, on whom they had no claims, save what Christian char ity dictated—as also to their fellow citizens, who by their attendance have so liberally proved on this. as they have frequently done on former occasions, that the Orphan's friend is not confined to any particular religious denomination, the Managers hereby ten der their warmest and deepest gratitude, and beg leave to assure all who have so gene, oesly contributed to wards the success of the charitable undertaking. that their disinterested kindness will be long remembered in the prayers of the Orphan.
