Wednesday mohnino, march ib, ism. Fifth Ward Bounty Meeting.— The citizens of the Fifth ward will meet every evening this week at the School Honae for ihe purpose of swelling the subscriptions to their bounty fund. The subscriptions have already reached the large sum of twenty-two thousand dol lars, and with a vigorous effort on the the part of each enrolled man it is thought that enough money can be raised by baturday night to fill the quota with vol unteers. Volunteers are offering from various veteran regiments in the field and some have already credited them selves to the ward on the representations of persons in the ward who expected the money to |re raised before this time Only two hundred and fifty have yet subscribed, leaving some one thousand yet to respond. Important business will be transacted tbis evening, and everv man over eighteen years of age ought to be there in his proper person or by proxy. The Fifth ward can raise her quota if she goes at it in earnest, and we trust that on this evening there will be such an outpouring of the people as will show that they are dreadfully in earnest A draft is a serious matter, so is three hundred dollars, and so is fifty dollars, hut not by any means so difficult til gather up as the larger amount. Then at seven and a half o'clock this evening let the presence of every man interested j indicate where the Fifth will stand on I the fatal day that a draft takes place in ; the grand old countv of Allegheny The Coming Fair.-The Executive Committee are busily engaged in making arrangements tor the forthcoming Sani tary Fair. The time for holding the rair has not yet been definitely fixed, nor has the location been decided on This, we presume, will be announced some time this week. In the meantime the ladies have commenced moving in earnest in the good cause. A joint meet inu of the ladies of all the churches of K&st Liberty is to be held in the base ment oftlie Mpthodist Episcopal Church on to-day at 2 o’clock for the purpose of organization. Our people are taking hold of the matter with a will, and now that it has been settled to hold the Fair, no dodbt all will do their best to promote its 1 interests. .Fames Patk, jr , John IV. ! F. halfant and C. 11. Batchelor, went to ! Cleveland yesterday for the purpose of buying the building erected iu that <it v ' provided they can ret it on reasonable 1 terms. IVe observe in the Cleveland I papers that the managers of the late lair I in that city are willing to dispose of the ' building, hence there is no doubt that it i can be purchased on reasonable terms, j The good work goes bravely on j Coal Exchange. —A stated meeting ' of the Coal Exchange was held yesterday ! morning at the Merchants’ Exchange j President Smith inthe chair. The Com- I mittee appointed on the new Coal Dig- j ging Machine not being present, the mat- ! ter, after discussion, Avus laid oxer till '' next meeting. Alien Dunn was elected Coal Guager f'ortUe enseuing year. Mr. Brown stated that a number of coal bar- I ges had been appropriated by the Gov- ’ emment, for the use of which six dollars ; per day was allowed, and as the barges 1 cost from $2,500 to $ll,OOO, it was not a ! sufficient remuneration at the present stage of the river. He moved that the I officers ot the Exchange he requested to correspond with Gen. Allen, Chief Quar termaster, upon the subject, which was j adopted. Messrs. Bailev and Blackmore j was .appointed a Committee to wait upon the President of the Monongahela Plaek- I water Company, and request the enlarge- 1 ment of Lock No. 3. Wm R. Brow°n, James Bailey and J. F. Herron, were ap pointed a Committee to represent the coal interest at the approaching fair Nice Story Spoiled—The friends of “Little Mac” Cand who Is not his friend ?) will peruse the following, which we clip from the New York Cum mercial, with proud satisfaction: The charge that Gen. McClellan had a secret IntelyieW with (>en. I.ee the night after the lat tlo of Antietam, has proved to be a action of a disordered brain. He has been In the custody of the Sergeant-aUArms since Wednesday afternoon, out refuses to make under onth the statment he had furnished for publication. He has also oth er stories of a marvelous nature, one of which 1b that he was for some time employed night and day by Secretary Chase In aiding in the pre paration of a new'financial scheme, which has no tounaation in fact. Still up in the Figures.—Butter was selling in our market on Saturday morning at from forty-five to fifty cents per pound. This is terrific, and out of all reason, more especially as everything else sells proportionately high. But people have themselves to blame for it Just so long as they submit to such ex tortion, just so long will it be practiced upon them. When prices of marketing reach a point out of the.reach of limited means, they ought to resist by not pur chasing, becaute it is not the inade qu&te supply, but sheer extortion that Sterne rite prices of all the necessaries of life in these glorious shoddy times. Patents.—The following patents have been granted to Pennsylvanians since March 1 : To William Camerer, of Reading, Pa., for improved safeiy-vulve attachment. To George W. Griswold, of Aliington, Pa., for improvement in wrenches w. To Robert Ross, of Bethlehem, Pa., for improvement in lubricators. To Archibald H. Rowand, of Alle gheny, Pa., for improvement in moulds for casting bungs plugs, Ac. To Abraham Btoler and Banniel A Sisson, Bristol, Pa., for improvement in raking attachment to harvesters. Night Delivery of the MaH.—Busi ness men and all others receiving many communications through the mail will be pleased to learn that Postmaster Von Bonnborst has made arrangements for the delivery of the mial at night up till half-past nine o’clock. The office will hereafter be opened, ns described, until half-past nine o’clock, nt which hour the mails are all distributed, and those who own boxes, as well qs those who arc supplied at the General Delivery, on as certaining that mail matter lias been placed in them, can receive it without delay. Salt in Michigan.—Salt has been found on the Huron River between Lakes Huron and St. Clair, at the depth of 682 feet. Twenty per cent, of the trine is pure salt, and it ia said to be-more ftge from impurities than any other salt in the State, and being directly on the line of the Lake communication between the East and West, they must prove vahtami* to that locality.
