'Among those particularly affected by it is the Gazette, of 'this city, which paper regards the cir - euler as being unmanly, untruthful and "Mean." When we reflect, however, upon the interesting and significant fact, of our neighbor having about six of its attaches fillinglucrative sinecures under Mr. Lrwc.crLN, we can partially account for its disgust at the "meanness" of these hungry outsider, who are laboring for the elevation of Secretary CirAsr.. . The circular, in question, declares that Mr: LINCOLN cannot he re-elected, which is as certain "as proofs of holy . writ," and we take the liberty of stating also, that no other Abolitionist can. The days for all such outrageous nonsense have departed, and we trust forever . But there is no doubt of AnE having the advantage, so far as a nomination is concerned. He has hundreds of thous ands of well organized dependents labor ing for him, each one having a personal interest in his success? But still the op position to him is growing in 'cambers and feeling. His peculiar friends—the aforesaid office hunters and contractors —in order to choke off opposition, in stituted the Union Leagues. These polit ical gamesters, who have grown opulent off of the very blood and agony of the nation, calculated upon putting their candidate before the people, without the aid of a national convention; but popu lar denunciation of the contemplated usurpation has caused them to abandon their exclusive expedient for cheating the people. Their game now is to hold a national conventibn, in order to give the friends of CHASE and FrtEmoNy no excuse for bolting ABE'S nomination. In pursuance of this ari angement, the National Abolition Committee have set tled upon the 6th of .lune, as the time, and Baltimore the place for holding the convocation. This early day is settled upon, because the friends of ik.l3F. - have things fixed," and because the friends of, other aspirants will have no time for preparation. So, too, Baltimore is set tled upon as the place because of its 'proximity to Washington—that infa mous city, wherein at present abounds all sets of political roguery. Frcut this it will be seen that honest old Any, has. • by the most corrupt appliances succeeded in securing his re-nomination. He is in the hands of the worst rogues in his party, and they are using hint for their own infamous purposes. In the meantime we may look out for heavy work against LINCOLN, the Tri bune of Tuesday closes an article upon the situation in this decided manner: ✓ The Practical:question, thy, iwthis—Hat Mr. L1210013f proved so transcendently able and wi ndmills a President that all consideration of the merits, abilities, and services of others should be postponed or forborne in favor of his re-election I Thirds a question whereon, pending the definite selection of our candidates, [nem should be the utmost, freedom of Opinion and expression. VicksAulza,Feb. 8. —Yestsrday I went out to Big 'Ma& to see McPherson's army corps cross on the pontoon bridge. It was a magnificent sight. They com menced crossing at Ip. ru. At 4 o'clock the train returned - toward the eity. Six miles from the bridge we found the rear of the moving column, The entire col umn was fourteen miles long. Hurlbut's army corps, equally large, dossed on pontoon bridges at Messenger's Ford, • five miles above thy. bridge. General Thomas, with his body guard was mov ing between the columns. A large force was sent up the Yazoo to Haines's Bluff, to move between the Yazoo and Big Black, to prevent any flank movement the enemy might attempt to cut off the supply trains. The iron-clad gunboats will try to get up to Grenada, on the Yallabusha, to co-operate with Grierson's Cavalry, 10,000 strong, who were to stdrt from Memphis and Grande Junc tion on Monday last. They will drive Forrest's command towards Cantons twenty-five miles North of Jackson where Polk is stationed with his rebel, conscripts. There will be either a fight or a fast run from there to Jackson, which place is being again strongly fortified with cot ton bales. It is rumored that the rebele, will be able to bring into the field some 35,000 or 40,000 men. There may he some hard fighting, but conscripts can not stand before veterans. I never saw an army start on a march with men who looked so full of fight as Sherman's com mand. It is composed strictly of white men. The only negros I saw on the march were the body -servants of the ricers, and these entirely unarmed. IlavAins's brigade of 1110 Corps trAfri que were sent up the Yazoo a few tie since to skirmish ronad while o , banti's regiment was taking in sonic corn 1111 , 1 forage. They were attacked by about • tiity tubule in a skirt or the woods, when they double-quirked it hack to the gun boats. Physicians and medicines failed to relieve me. While visiting some friends New York who were using Plantation Bitters they prevailed upon me to try them. I commenced with a small wine glassful after dinner. Feeling better by degrees, in a few days I was astonished to find the cold ness and cramps had entirely left me, and I could sleep the night through, which I had not done for years.
