Every man there is throbbing with joydusness, with the love and memories of the old land, with fan and devilment, with gooduesdbf heart. It is St. Vatriek's Day. [Loud and enthusiastic applause.] Nev er did his pulse beat quicker. All the hopes, all the visitations of the past, all the impulses, passions, energies, that give elasticity,- beauty, fruitfulness and power to his nature come into play this day, and all the waywardness or fierceness, . which the adverse destiny of his country - pro yokes, is lost as it were in the ectitacy of a new birth. It is on this day—this day of all others in the year—one fully reaflzes the contrast of the Irish character which Thomas Davis, with varying cadences of tenderness and strength, has illustrated in his martial lyrics Tall is his form his heart is warm his spirit littht as any fairy— Eris wrath is fearful as the storm (hat slyeops the Bilis o liPPerat: Yet meet hi f m in his c abin rude, or dancing with his dark-eyed Mary.
