A upeeial dispatch from Harrisburg says: file proclamation of the Governor to-day 1 will have no effect on the draft, the ar rangements for which are still progressing. Enrollment in a militia organization will not exempt a man from draft. A war meetiurr was held in Dr. J. T. PressVs First tY. P. Church, Allegheny, on Thursday evening, to organize n com pany fur the State defense. Dr. Press!) presided. Rev. Mr Guthrie, of Pine township, made a patriotic address. A muster roll was then prepared, and quite a number of names enrolled, inciuuing Dr. Pressly's. A roll was left at Patter- SOWS shoe store, corner Federal and Water streets, for signatures. , nother War Meeting al the Court House. Pursuant to a call issued'hy the Mayor a large number of citizens assembled in the - Court House yard at 10 o'clock on Friday morning, to respond to the call of the President for 50,000 men to defend Pennsylvania. The Mayor called the meeting to order and was elected chairman. Hon. Wm. F. Johnston, Jas. M. Taylor, Jno. H. Shoes besger and .Ino. Quinn were chosen Vice Presidents and D. O'Neill, Jas. H. Hop kind and Gee. H. Anderson, Secretaries. On motion of Mr. Shoenberger it was resolved that all business be suspended until this crisis in our country's affairs be passed over. Also that the Governor be requested to proclaim martial law throughout the State. It was moved that a committee of five be appointed to report immediately to:this meeting what is best to be done at this junction.. This was advocated by Gov. Johnston, who expressed himself as opposed to the action, of the committee now in existence, who, he said, held secret sessions and 14:4' their position to advance their owu teresta.• He was in favor of the people acting for themselves, on the instant, and discarding all interventiou by outside committees who used two much red tape. James Parke; jr., replied to the reflec tions cast upon the Committee, insisting that it had discharged its duties promptly and faithfuly. Ile was opposed to the meeting taking the business out of the Committee's hands. The motion was lost by ^ a large vote iu the negative. The Mayor stated that transportation would be ready at 4 o'clock in the after noon for all woo desired to go at that Lime, and he hoped all present would come up and sign the rolls, several of which were scattered through the crowd in the hands of company officers. A resolution was passed to this effect, and we are sorry to say that immediately after there was a eery perceptible movement toward the gates. It was then resolved that when any num ber of recruits are ready to be transported they shall select company officers, to whom , all shall be obedient, for the purpose of preserving order and some kind of system. It was now moved that all companies shall, when organized to the minimum, re port to Hon. Thos. M. Howe, Assistant _Adjutant Get:eial. the number of men, and when they will be ready to leave. Gov Johnston was also unposed to this, and, t i h a few friends, aided by the Mayor, ()Were° several amendment s and endeav ored to stave (.ff action on the main ques tion Gov. Johnston made three distinct speeches against the proposition. Jas . Parke, jr , replied in scathing terms and remarks wore also made by others. When the vote was taken there were but three nays and Guy. Johnston left the meeting in dudgeon. Among the amendments offered was one to report to the meeting and another to the Mayor, but the meeting could see no reason for taking it out of the hands of the officer appointed by the Governor. The Assistant Adjutant General was requested to publish, in the morning papers, the names of all companies re ported to him. The resolution with regard to suspend ing business was amended to close at a o'clock each day. Soon alter-the meeting adjourned. We regret its having been called, as it was productive of no good, engendering only bad feeling, and was chiefly calculated to distract the organizations being so rapidly formed in every ward of the two cities and surrounding boroughs and townships. The Muchmore Gourds. • This company intended for the Corco ran Regiment, is nearly full, only a few good men being wanted to complete the roll. The liberality of Mr. Jas. The lityatery. This is a most attractive story of domes- tic life, written by Mrs. Henry Wood, who, in a series of popular fictions, has won for herself a high reputation. It is published by Messrs. The story is told very art fully, and the mystery which runs through it cannot be detected until the close. It is a most striking and will be a successful production.
