Every citizen of the county is now in terested in filling up the new organizations to avoid the necessity of a draft. Among the beat is the Corcoran battery of light artillery to be attached to the Corcoran Brigade. It will be commanded by Lieut. Jno. I. Nevin, an experienced officer, in whom any good man can have full con fidence. All the bounties paid. Come up, Irishmen, and join this battery, es it is the last chance. Again. George H. Thompson, of Allegheny, who has followed the vocation of a swind ler for years, and, about two weeks since, got $lO from a gentleman in Alleghney under pretence of collecting for recruiting purposes, was arrested in Baltimore last Saturday, dressed as an infiudiy Lieuten ant, passing himself off as a wounded sol dier. Singularly enough he was detected by Dr. Scroggs, the gentleman whom he had swindled in Allegheny, who caused his arrest and had him sent to Fort Mc"- Henry as a deserter. he having enlisted prior to leaving this city. A meeting was held at the Dugesne En gine House last evening to take measures for efiect:ng a military organization of toe militia of the ward. S. F. Von Bonhorst, Esq., presided, and Wm. M. KIER & CO., . shoethig Affray - fa the FIMIht Ward—Preable Moveteldle. 0n Monday night, about ten o'clock, a difficulty occurred between Edward Kaye, a well•known moulder of the Fifth Ward, and a laborer named Michael Berger, at the beer hull of Peter Bomberger, Liberty street. Kaye had been drinking in the hall, but although not in company with Berger, it is alleged that Kaye charged him with having lied about some matter betivem I them. He also made a remark 1 which was offensive to some tiermans who were present. Berger denied having lied about Kaye, and asked "what it was;" when Kaye hastily drew a revolver and fired, the bull entering Berger's right side, below the ribs, and passing diagonally through the body, lodged bear the spine. Berger exclaimed, " I'm shot," and pass ing to the sidewalk, stepped into his own house, near by. Kaye remained about the hall for a few minutes, and it is said that he was once under arrest, but got of by denying that he had shot at any body. lie then disappeared, and has not yet been arrested. Dr. Walter was summon ed to attend Mr. Berger, and from him we learn that his case is critical. GENERAL POPE'S NEW COMMAND LATER FROM HAGERSTOWN *e., he., *e., &e WasonvoroN, Sept. 9.—The Star says: "Yesterday afternoon two companies of the Third Indiana cavalry, under com mand of Major Chapman, went to Pooles- Mlle, Md., which they found in possession of a rebel cavalry regiment, which had planted on a hill to the right of the town one field piece, which was opened on our men as they approached. The command did not stop, but made a charge through the town, the enemy who were there ske daddling, and forming a line of battle near their gun. In a few moments reinforce ments came up, consisting of the Eighth Illinois cavalry, and our guns. After a Few shots they succeeded in silencin" the enemy's piece, when another charge was made by Major Chapman's command and , the rebels broke and ran, leaving seven of heir dead on the field. Our loss is one man killed, Sergeant David A. Fallis, of Co. B, and eight wounded—Lieuts. Ladue and Davis of Co. 11, and six men of Co, A." The steamer Anacosta, Master Nelson, provost, arrived at the Navy Yard, this morning, bringing up two prizes, one of which was taken some weeks since and one on last Friday night and ten prisoners. The last named prize, s small schooner called the Rising Sun. was captured by the boats of the Wyandotte, under Master McGowan, on Friday night last, in Brit tain's Bay, near the mouth of the Poto mac. as she was crossing into Virginia after a lung chase. The crew of the schooner perceiving that she was pursued ran close into the shore and the boats fol lowing were fired at several times by guer- rillas along the shore, but without effect. The schooner, however, succeeded in reach ing the shore and was run aground when the crew deserted her, leaving her a prize in our hands. She bad a cargo consisting coffee, teas, salt and. dry goods. Parker, Brigadier General Porter and others, are here as aids to the Governor arid are rendering valuable assistance. It will thus be seen that Governor Curtin has a cabinet which, for energy and abil ity, both in a military and a civil point of view is unsurpassed. The Lion. Thos. M. Howe, of Pitts burgh, has been appointed Acting Assist ant Adjutant General, in order better to secure the more prompt and complete or ganization of the undrafted militia of the Western portion of the State. The Governor is said to be in constant communication with General McClellan, and a much greater degree of confidence prevails as to our ability to prevent any raid into the State entailing serious con sequences. SECOND DISPATCH HARRISBURG, Sept. 9.—A deserter from the rebel army, who has arrived at Han over, states that the rebels are at Frede rick, Md., and are 100,000 strong. Several stores were rob bed. The office of the Mirror newspaper was demolished, and fifty recruits for Kan sas regiments captured. Gov. Robinson has issued a proclama tion calling upon all citizens of the State to organize and arm for home defense. The courier who brings the dispatch to Sioux City, with an eseort i a ten men, had a fight with twenty Indians, ten miles from Yanktown. The Governor calls for a regiment, arms and ammunition, as a general Indian war is feared. The Federals shelled them our of their rifle-pits, they took refuge in a barn. We shelled them out of that; they resorted to a dwelling; we again shelled them oat and entered Clarksville Tue citizens co-operated with the rebels but resumed their civic avocations when we took Clarksville. The rebels are re treating. The rebel Col. Johnson, at Hopkinsville, yesterday acknowb-dged that Shackelford, at the recent fight, whipped the rebels badly. Kelley, of Effinghain county, is among the killed. The sufferers are principally of his company. A ripleial train, with physicians atd nurses, was sent from here. The accident was occa sioned by a partial opening of a switch by a supposed spy, who has been arrested. The wounded were removed to the hos. pital here. HAGERSTOWN, Sept. 9 .—Everything is quiet here, and Union teen who left with in six miles of Frederick this afternoon, report that there were no rebels this side of Frederick. It is of the highest importance that the whole line of fortifications should be at once put in the best possible condition. Laborers who come :onward voluntarily and go to work are paid one dollar per day each. If enough cannot be procured at this rate, there will be an impressment that will bring nut enough, probably without money or price. if it is necessary to enforce martial law in all its rigor, it will be done. The safety of the city may immediately de mo' ipon the fortifications. The regular and the irregulars can be best eta in drilling. There is a demand ne river for dirt carts.
