It was. he said, impor tant that we should act unanimously.-- Tke country is now in a death struggle for the perpetuation of the Constitution and the Union—for which the Democracy have always stood. They have ever aimed to maintain the glorious liberty we have en,joyed under the principles estab lished by our forefathers, anti on them now devolves an important and imperative duty. They have a great mission to per form—to stand by the Constitution and the laws in putting down all the foes of constitutional liberty and the laws under which we live. M. Pollock and Henry Ingram as Vice Presidents, and Jno. Fullwood as Secretary.. Col. R. Biddle Roberts, Francis Sellers, George P. Hamilton and .1. B. Sweitzer were nominated for Congress. Mr. Richards stated that Col. - Roberts would not be a candidate and his name was withdrawn. Mr. Ross also withdrew the name of Col. Sweitzer. A vote was then taken on the remaining candidates, resulting thus : Hamilton, 30:. Sellers, 2. Mr. Kerr moved to amend the motion by making the committee consist of one from each election district in the county, which was adopted by the mover. Mr. O'Neill, of Allegheny, moved to amend by making the Chairman of the Convention Chairman of the Committee. This was also adopted. The motion as ameuded was then unan imously adopted. Col. Pittsburgh Officers Prisoners. Private dispatches received yesterday from Culpepper Court House announce the capture by the rebels of Capt. Wm. L. Fonlk, Lieut. H.. 1. Greatrake, and Lieut. Scott, all of Co. 13, 46th regiment; and Capt. Jno. H. Stewart and Lieut. Han. cock of the Union Cavalry of Pittsburgh. Lieut. Matthews, of Co. F, (Capt. B. W. to Morgan) 46th regiment, at first suppoaed be killed or a prisoner, was found on the field, wounded in the leg. • War Meeting in Allegheny. On ruesday evening a large and patriotic war meeting took place in the Allegheny Diamond. Speeches were made by Samuel Harper, Esq., Rev. J. J. Harks Chaplain Of the tiga regiment, Capt. W. Moody and W. W. Alexander. A brass band was in attendance and enlivened the occa sion with several patriotic airs. Died in Richmond. A private letter to Judge Gabriel Adams, of this city, dated Richmond, July 26th, conveys the melancholy announcement of the death of his nephew, James Adams, of Co. A. 102 d (old 13th) Pa. Volunteers in his 23d year. The letter written by H. W. Read, a Baptist minister' and prisoner, states that he died in that city on the 26th. Cholee Stock far Sale. At the request of several of our sub scribers who have tried the following re ceipt for making blackberry wine of a su perior quality and found it to be the thing, we republish it. It is superior to any other wine for medical purposes, invalua ble as a tonic and an excellent remedy for diseases of the bowels: It is also of very fine flavor: Measure your berries and bruisd them; to every gallon adding on a quart of boiling water. Let the mixture stand twenty-four hours, stirring occasion ally ; then strain off the liquid into a cask; to every gallon adding two pounds of sugar; cork tight and let it stand till the following October, and you will have wine ready for use with out further straining or boiling, that will make lips smack that never smacked under similar influences before.
