R. Bruno,. Esq. F. Brunot, E.'sq., of this city, now in Witabirgtan City, having been paroled for `verity die. for the purpose of effecting an es:change, gives an - interesting account of the condition of the treatment of our sol diers when captured and subsequently. Moat of the sufferers in the battle of Thursday, Friday and Saturday were re moved to Savage's Station, where the man - . Sion, negro quarters and outbuildings of forded them an imperfect shelter. A great number of hospital tents had been pitched in the adjacent orchard and fields.and these provided further accommodations for a large number of the sufferers. Blankets, boards and canvas covered all the sur rounding space, and those who could not be laid in the tents were stretched upon these in the open air. There was neces sarily much pain endured by the unfortu nates, as the falling back of the army in volved things in confusion, and the few surgeons remaining had neither the ap purtenances nor the! opportunities to' ply their avocation. he battle of Peach Orchard, on Sunday, largely increased the number of patients. In the afternoon the battle to the left of Savage's coin- menced, and the rebels, either not per ceiving or disregarding our hospital flag, tired the first three shells directly into the I hospital. Considerable solicitude ensuing among the helpless and maimed, seine of the surgeons volunteered to take a flag of truce to the enemy. It was received by them, and a note returned, signed by three rebel colonels, promising not to assail the hospital, unless unfair advantage was taken by our army. The battle raged till nine o'clock in the evening, the wounded being constantly brought _into Savage's. and under cover of night oar troops re tired, leaving detachments to bring the wounded from - the field, who continued at their labor till one o'clock on Monday morning. At daylight the enemy's pickets came riding into Savage's, and guards were at once placed upon the hospital. Common country wagons were then set to work , by the rebels to collect the wounded ; on the field, and they were all brought to the station. Some of the dead were buried on the field that day, and the work pro gressed through the three ensuing days, until all had been interred. on Tuesday; .norning, the rebels commenced removing their own wounded to Richmond. In the ' meantime detachments were set to work to piek up the leaving,s and spoils of our camps. The poverty of the rebels is ex everything clear down to the old Cast off elothes and shoes, solitary cartridge boxes and haversacks, and eyes the iron frog meats of shells - . Their own were provided with adequate accommodatio ns in the houses and pleas. ant hospitals of Richmond, while ours were not taken to the city till Tuesday week after the battle. Many ofthetn had in the meantime died of their wounds, and most I of these were interred near the station. At length our wounded were transferred ; to Richmond, and regarded not as wound- ed, but as prisoners of war. They were I placed in various warehouses, prisons where the air was impure and the ventila- ' Lion shoelang. No surgeons were provi ded for them, save the surgeon in charge of each hospital, and these took no means to relieve our sufferers, save in a single case, when a rebel surgeon produced a I rusty saw and amputated a leg. The pa- j tient afterwards died. Of ail the rebel' ladies that were so officious in attending to their own maimed, not one appeared among the wounded and dying strangers that crowded their city. Up to the time of Mr. Brunot depart. ure, the mortality increased daily. None of our surgeons were kept in prison. Mr. Brunot came away to arrange for exchang ing prisoners, but gave a stringent parole to return in twenty days unless exchanged for Mr. Lawrence Washington. He learn ed that Gen. Dix has arranged with the rebel authorities for an immediate release of our wounded upon parole. It is sta ted that the parole of wounded Union prisoners at Richmond has already been commenced, and that two hundred and fifty have already been sent to the White House, awaiting a Hag of truce to bring them away. Mr. Brunt saw (Sens. McCall and - nolds, neither of whom are wounded, in the officers' prison at Richmond, occupy ing an apartment partitioned off from the Colonels' and Majors' quarters.— The company officers have been as signed to an upper room in the same building. The officers, as well as the sick and wounded, are provided with rations of bread and meat twice a day. Soup of some kind is furnished to the sick and wounded unable to eat solid food. The wounded men from Savage's Station are placed in the tobacco warehouses in which the Bull Run prisoners were formerly conined.— There are three of these warehouses, ad joining - Erich other, and communicating by ' passages one with the other. A few bunks have been erected for offi cers; but most of the sick and wounded lie upon the floor, which does not appear to .have been cleaned since last occupied as a prison. Until lately all were left in the clothes they wore when taken. Within a few days comforts and drawers, &c., had been furnished in limited quantities. The clothes of the wounded in many instances had to be cut off, having been saturated, with the exudations from their wounds. These scraps of clothing were all carefully gathered up, as were also the woollen scraps found about our abandoned camps. It is supposed they were sent to the wool len mills, to he used in the manufacture of clothing for the rebel soldiers. Among the prisoners at Richmond are fourteen sutlers. July Weather. There have been more extreme warm days during the present month than there were in the corresponding period of July, 1861. The highest marking of the thermom eter this month was 96+ degrees; on two other days the mercury rose to 94 degrees, one day to 92+, and on two to 90 degrees, making six days that it was from 90 to 98} degrees. In 1861, the highest mark ing of the thermometer was 95 ; on two other days it was 91 degrees, and at no time afterwards up to the 20th did it mark above 88 degrees. In August, 1861, there were three warm days, the 4th, 6th and 6th, the highest being 99 degrees. After the 6th, the mercury did not rise to 90 degree!, and the weather was quite moderate to• wards the close of the month. illegal Weighing. Mad Dugs--. The Stoy Remedy. In Isl 9 one Valentine Kettering of Dan !AM county, communicated to the Senate of Pennsylvania, a sure remedy for the bite ot any kind of mad animals. Ile said that his ancestors had already used it in Germany 250 years ago, and that he had always found it to answer the purpose. during a residence of fifty years in the United States. He only published it from motives of humanity. This remedy con sists in the weed called Chick -weed. It is a summer plant, known to the Germans and Swiss by the name of Ganchnellt Rother Meyer, or (other Ilttelotardarm. In England it is called Red Pimpernel; and its botonical name is Angelica Pho nicea. It must be gathered in June when in full bloom, and dried in the shad e , and then pulverized. The dose of this fur a grown person is a small tablespoon ful, or in ice;ght• a drachm and ple at once, a scru in beer or water.-- For children the dose is the same, yet it must he administered tit three different times. In applying it to animals. it must he used green, cut to pieces, and mixed with bran or other feed. For hogs the pulverized weed is made into little balls by mixing it with flour and water. It can also he put on bread and batter, or in honey, molasses. The Hey. Henry Muhlenberg said that in Germany thirty grains of this powder are given four times the first day, then one dose a day for the whole weak; while at tit,, sa me ti me the wound is washed out with a decoction of the weed, and then the powder strewn in it. Mr. Kettering said that he in all in stances administered but one dose with the most happy regilt,i. '1 his is said to rilt same remedy through which the late lie. Vm. Stoy effected .; many c.tre,t. The following is the entire number of casualties in the Twelth Regiment Penn sylvania Reserves Col. John H. Taggart, in the recent battles before Richmond:— Killed, 18; wounded, 60; missing 37: to ml, 110. Th.l regiment was in four bat tles—at Mechanicsville on the 26th and 27th of June, at (}nine's Mill (or Chicks hominy) on the 27th of June, and Turkey Creek on the 30th of June. In the first three battles they were actively engaged, and in the fourth were held as a reserve. Knap's Pennsylvania Battery, Lient. Tingley, of Knsp's Pennsylva nia Battery, for a long time attached to Col. Geary s Twenty-eighth Pennsylvania Regiment, and which became quite noted for its exploits with that regiment in Vir giria, during Geary's single handed ad Vance on the last occupation of the Valley of the Shenandoah, is recruiting for the battery. His headquarters are at Norris town. The New Stamp Currency. Postage stamps having been made a legal tender by Congress, recently, they will undoubtedly supplant all irregular methods of making small change, being good as long as the Government holds to- gether. The laws of the United States inflict a penalty of $5OO upon any one who sells a postage stamp for more than its legal value ; therefore, as they will come generally into use as change, and are "as good as wheat," they will not be the har binger of a brisk trade to the speculator in specie. It may be said, to the honor of the people of Western Pennsylvania, that their contri• butions have been so generous that the committee has always been able to respond promptly to any appeals for aid.
