The Railroad €tit Behind Mcl'lollnn!—_ Immense Damage by KtoofSlonewnl I Jaekson-s Cavalry—Xeewsily ol Ite. informing; McClellan. Correspondence of the New Yonc Tribune. Savack’s, Saturday, .Tune 14. Washington, aye, and New York, must lmve shivered Inst nighfwith apprehension for the safety of the army of the Potomac, and have gone into a spasmodic bawling for the instant re-enforcement of McClel lan. *Tis by such lessons asJackson taught us that Washington and New York learn wisdom. Fear, and not reason, is the edu cator of most communities, in a period of war. The down train from our advance last evening to the White House was attacked by the enemy, about four miles from the latter station, which is the terminus of the road. This road is the principal machine which supplies our army with food and ammunition, and which rapidly moves troops from the transports to the point. — It is indispensable to the army —literally indispensable. v J'was soldierly audacity which led a squadron of ltitt Rebel cavalry around our right, right down to the track, and there awaited just about mooim.-e for the train. A rail previously removed secured tin* stoppage of the cars —the cutting of the telegraph wire secured the enterprise from publicity and from interruption. When the expected train came opposite tiie am bush it was fired on. Six men in the cars and on their roofs are said to have been instantly killed. A Colonel and Major, supposed to have been on the train, arc said to be missing. A captain and eight privates are positively said to have been captured. The cavalry finished their work by burniug part of the train and dam aging the rood so extensively that no: a car traversed the line from in the even ing till 11 next forenoon. ' This was bud enough in its direct and positive effects, not to speak of its sug gestions. llut more remain:-. These bold horsemen foraged do-** up to the Whit*- House, and carried terror with them, and wasted furiously as they went. tti*-v plundered and burned several vessels lit the l'ainunky Kiver, swooped down on a huge wagon train, and, *tis said, burned a forage train of full Oil wagons, killed a number of teamsters, and made so deri ded an impression on the nerves of author ity at the White House, that the sick, wounded, and women were hurried board the steamer Spaulding, which lias the safeguard of iron plating. Steam was instantly gotten up on all the other vessels in the stream, and very many of them dropped from their moorings ami went below to positions of fancied security. This shows what ItiOmen can do. \Yho:;o men were these? ' 77* positively said Me// were Stonewall Jacksons ■ This active rebel General's army Ims wholly escaped Fremont, and is now on our flunk. So the country people North of us say. And ! believe it to be true. Will not New York and Washington now sec to it that McClellan is re-enforced? 1 was never an alarmist. But J tell th< people of the North that they had better demand in the thunder Min s ‘of the /'resi dent, instant rc-enfony/neut of ihe >m;nj of ihe Potomac. ' S. W. 102,995 25 ALLEGHENY INSURANCE CO.
