The Law Vindicated. Judge D— vfalfritid of oard play ing, and occasionally indulged in the amusement. During the period he mi. oupied a seat on the betieb, the Legis lature of Georgia passed very stringent laws to prevent gambling, and made it imperative on the judges to charge the grand juries at the opening of each session of the court, to pment•all who were known as gamblers, etc. The judge had conformed to the require merits of the law, but, pone were pre ae•ited, and gamblingaitemed to flourish as it ever bad. On au occasion when the judge was on bis and after his usual chgrwe to the grand jury and as usual, no notice taken of the charge, Judge D— ascertained there was a faro bank in successful operation in the very precincts of the court The judge , thought he would indulge his propensi ty for play, and visited the bank. lie played, and was very snoc•ssful as was his wont; he won all the money, and broke up the establishment. After he had pocketed his winnings, and was about retiring, he perceived several of the grand jury in the room, who had likewise been engaged in the game Judge D— observed to them : '•.Gentlemen of the Grand Jury, the law requires me to do all in my power to sappreas the vice of gambling. I have charged the grand juries upon the subject rime after time without any good effect. It was time for me to sot, and see it I could not enforce the law have done so; and the most effectual way of doing it is to break the bank, which I have done to-night. I do not think these fellows will trouble the public for some tame to come, and the law in me is vindicated. Gentlemen, I bid you good-night." Rom ping Don't be afraid of a little romping op the part of your girls, and never pun ish them for indulging in it, but thank Heaven, who has endowed them so largely with animal spirits. These must have vent in some way, and bet ter the glow which a little romping imparts to the cheeks, than a distorted spfne or a pallid brow. Health is one of the greatest of blessings, and only a good share of physical exercise can se cure this to children. Let them romp, then, Erse*if they do make some noise, and tear their dresses occasionally, and lead you to cry out, "Oh, dear, what shall I do !" Yes 1 lot them romp. Sober times will come by and by. Life brings its cares 800 W enough to all ; and let the children be happy while they are young. God made them to be happy, and why should parents thwart his plans?
