CITY DLAT TERS.
lea lea 4.2 in Ouse , —)Matters at the
Mayor's office - are in a state of unusual
quiescence. There lei no criminal buaine,s
of any importance being transacted and
consequently little is thought or talked of
there out the change of dynasty, to take
place on Saturday. The 'vats" are mak.
ing preparitioris to retireas gracefully as
may be and the "ins" are getting ready to
take the reins of municipal government.
The old clerk is closing up Mayor
son's business and the new clerk is prepay.
ing to take his place. The new blanks are
already printed and everything "cut and
dry" for the advent of the new Mayor.—
The change occurring at the beginning of
the month would have occasioned some
confusion in the drawing of warrants and
settlement of aecounts, but for the crowd,
ing in of the closing days, onabing the
Controller to certify the Mayor's warrants
for the entire month yesterday. Thus, the
Controller can close the city accounts for
the fiscal year and be prepared to give up
to his successor and also to make report to
Councils at the special meeting next Tees
day evening. The "outs" among the po.
lice generally take their fate philosophi
cally, though there are, of conrse, some
exceptions. The public seem well satisfl d
with the appointments, while the success,
ful candidates are jubilant—and some o:
the disappointed vine versa.

Philadelphians should awaken to their
own interests Gov. Cur in Is strongly
urging upon the national government the
propriety of fitting out at Philadelphia an
excluthely Pennsylvania naval elpeclltion,
if in harmony with the plans of the gov
ernment and Commander in , Chief of the
army.
Notwithstanding the immense number
of men we now have in the field the Gov.
ernor offers a whole division consisting of
over twelve reviments full, complete and
ready to embark before the means of trans.
portation can be furnished. The public
spirited citizens of Philadelphia, should
take hold of this matter at once and by
means of their active cooperation secure
to the mechanics and laboring classes of
Philadelphia, the exppnditure of over a
million dollars of government money,
which otherwise will be turned to some
Eastern sea port.
The additional honor and glory which
must enevitable accrue to Pennsylvania
through this enterprise, should be another
incentive to active exertions on the part of
he citizens of Philadelphia and its failure
will probably be the result of the apathy
and indifference of its people.
