Dr. Oemirinelt - a worthy and esteemed minister of the Presbyterian Church, died at his residence in McClure township, on Sitter. day, after a brief illness. His remains were interred in Allegheny Cemetery on Sunday, in presence of a large concourse et relatives and friends, Letter from the Ringgold Cavalry. Nrw CItESK, Va., Sept. 17, 1861. Situated as we are in the advance in Vir. ginia, on last Wednesday we received or. ders to join Major Godman, of the 4th Ohio, at or near Stony river, thence to nreceed to Petersburg to dislodge a nest of 350 ewes. a.O had trade the nucleus of a camp and had cantors(' a few days before 14 u: the Home Guards of Greenland ai d sent them off to Monterey. A small de tazhnient had endeavored, a few days be , lore, to dislodge them but .were repulsed, and when we met with Major Godman at the place appointed, at Ba. in , he had with him one piece, of artillery, Captain Rigby, from Indiana, two companies the 9th Ohio and. some Home Guards, with the cavalry numbering in all abut 230 men With this force we proceeded quietly and reached within sight of their fortification, an old Baptist church on the road side, one mile North of the place and on favorable ground. The cavalry was placed around the artillery in such a way as to complete ly cover it from their view and advanced under cover of skirmishers till within 400 yards, when the piece was brought to bet r on their position, and the cavalry counter marched to its rear. The first notice of Its presence was booming cannister and balls, crashing through their midst success fully—away they went, and the Georgia Cavalry, the first as we thought to take a new position and firing still another shot, who had the order to charge, and away we went, the groUnd trembling beneath the heavy horses tread of cavalry up into their camp. But instead of receiving a raking fire as we expected; lo and behold, the chivalry in the dim distance, leaving a cloud of dust b3hind, and their infantry just entering the conlields and laurel moon tains, leaving these to be attended to by our footmen. Off we went in pursuit of their cavalry no more than a mile away— on a dead run Oa we went, now and then upon some distant hill get a glimpse sufficient to make us eager in the pursuit, and thus went the chase nine miles on the road to Moorfl.ld, only taking five prison ers. But fortunately by the chase wo came in contact with and captured lour large teams loaded down with grain and provis• inns for the secession army. The revelry ordered them to retreat that the Yankees were after them, and that one had got his wagon headed homeward, hut we made him quickly turn and drove them on to Petersburg. There was 19 head of splen did horses and harness with the drivers taking, five extra horses and 400 bushels of corn besides provisions. We drove them to camp, and on examining the b ix.`ol provisions, we found the nicest kind of peaches, grapes, pound cake, sweet cake, biscuit, honey, home-in:els .nolesse., eand tomatoes, proierved peaches, raspberry wine, dried beef, doughnuts, and potatoes, with a s-ntirnental letter from Miss Mari on P. Williams to Capt. hoping that the cakes would not spoil before be got them, &.;., &c. It the Captain will take my word fur it they were fresh and nice—fruit cakes and all and palatAble, as many 01 the boys will testify. The camp Equipages, guns, &c , amiut in value to about 12 to 14 thousand dollars, and cap turing twelve or fourteen prisoners and killing twenty. Our Icss was nom., one man wounded, who accompanied the ex political. We are safe again In cam, and ready for anything that may turn Up, arid we look for it hourly as fighting is now going on in Cheat Mountain, and if the enemy retreat this will be their likely Course. .1 KAYS. IMl==l FLOWING OIL WELLS.—Last weeks Titusville Gazette says: "Flowing wells are still the order of the day. B. Grove Jc Co , on the lower end of the Clapp farm, have struck a flowing well at the depth of 490 feet, which flows 300 barrel: per day. Lewis. Covode 60. hero open. ed a vein at 475 feet, which flows about 40 barrels per day. This well is on the islqrol opposite the upper end of Lhe Clapp place Byrnes, Greenwood & Cu. have a well :An feet deep, which flows freely. In tuiditi , ql to the above, it is stated that a fl-,win = g well was opened a week or ten de% s ago, a few rode above the Funk well. Report makes it equal to the Funk well in its palmiost days. We are told by those professing to be thoroughly posted, that the LI 'wing wells along the creek are all very considerably diminishing in their flow. This is not at all surprising, but on the contrary was long ago expected. We are firmly cone vinced that many, if not all oil men will yet feel that they have rushed the oil busi ness too fast for the benefltof all concerned. Much oil has been wasted, and nearly or quite all the profits of the business have gone into the pockets of refiners. Every. thing has gone with a rush, as did the re treat at Manassas." FLAG PR ESBNTATI ON AT CAMP CURTIN. —Saturday evening Governor Curtin, ac companied by his aids and the different officers of the State government, visited Camp Curtin for the purpose of present ing flags to Cols. Irwin and Nagle's reg iments. The flags were the same as those provided by the Legislature for all the regiments from this State, and are exceed ingly handsome in appearance. THAT "BILL LN Euurrv."—The famous bill in equity in the Pittsburgh and Steu benville Railroad cases, so thoroughly searched for some year or two since, and the loss of which gave rise to such serious charges, turned up yesterday in a file of documents relating to an estate. It had evidently got into the wrong nackage and only turns up now, unconscious of the trouble caused by its absence when needed. TURNED or. — Sylvester W. Murphy, the absconding witness ha the Frowenfeld clothing fraud case, has turned up in Phil adelphia, and states that ho has just arrived from Europe. Lie denies having been bribed by the defendants, and gives as a reason for his absence, that ho apprehend• ed personal danger if he remained here to testify in the case. Sept. 23 —An import ant case came before Judge Ludlow this morning, having a hearing on the enlist , ment system. Two Philadelphians enlisted in the Lincoln Cavalry of New York, and subsequently enrolled themselves in Capt. Davis' Independent Guards of the Penn. Sylvania 2.lth Regiment. They were ar. rested as deserters from the Cavalry, and the hearing this morning was on a writ of habeas corpus for the purpose of testing the right to recruit in Pennsylvania for other State regiments. Judge Ludlow postponed his decision, the only difficulty being the production of a certificate that they were actually in the service of the United States government, He desires, if possible, to prevent an appar ent conflict between the State and general government. This is the first attempt to break up recruiting here for other States. Surrender of Col. Mulligan. Sr. Louis, SEPT. 23.—Gen. Prentiss re. calved a dispatch announcing the surrender of Col.
