SATURDAY MORNING THE VOICE OF THE vv EsT—THE DEMOCRACY SPEAKS FOR DOUG LAS. Within the last ten days, the Democracy of a number of the Western States have held their conventions, and in these the popular will has been most gloriously re fleeted. Ohid, Illinois, and Indiana have all appointed their delegates to the Charles ton Convention,. and have all been true to this gallant stithNiman of Illinois—the ',Lit tle (Maar of the Niatlx-W est. in his own State, -Vhere, at the 'election of 185 Mr. Douglas tried one hundred and twenty-five thousand out of one hundred and thirty thousand Democratic votes it was a certain thing that her favorite son would receive the unanimona approval of her brave and un flinching Democracy who refused and re jected all influeneesto create a diversion against him. All honor to their fidelity I The remarkable and striking unanimity of sentiment which was exhibited among the Democrats of Illinois when Mr. Douglas was re-elected United States Senator has increased since then. The entire Democra cy of the State are now for him with a zeal and enthusiasm suck as has not been wit- messed sineethi'days General Jackson. The convention has sent twenty-six of his truest and most tried friends in the state, to Charleston to urge his nomination, and to cast the vote of Democratic Illinois for Stephen A.Douglas. Ohio, too,—the Empire State of the West —has spoken in a voice of thunder. The entire delegation in the State in convention met—men fresh from the ranks of the peo lithout a dissenting :pit:Le—approved -Iqi--4,-,theigiicat. Democratic &latrine of popular sovereignty as enunciated by Mr. Douglas, and by a vote of four to one, instructed their delegates at Charleston to cast its teen ty-six votes as -a...finit for the man of thi people's choice. Indiana, too, has spoken for herself. In a-voice not. to be uffstaken, she has given her opinion that Kr. Douglas is the man to lead the Democratic host in letiu. With all the efforts which were made to indace the Democracy of the State to depart from the course which the people had resolved upon, Indiana has said to her sister States of the North-West, " I will not part com pany with you in the coming contest. 'Die politicians cannot beat the people :—their preferences in the Presidential iamtest are expressed : —lncliana dec, lares for popular sovereignty, and its great national champion —.Stephen A: Douglas." The true and tried Democracy of the New England States, have declared their preference for Mr. Douglas. In laws, Wis consin, Minnesota and Michigan) the popu lar current is sweeping resistlessly in the same direction. It cannot be checked hor stayed. The people have taken the wafter into their own hands, and oid the plitacians stand aside. They have selected men o go to Charleston who will be faithlal exponents of their wishes—men 'upon whose fidelity and determination to resist all ex tcaneous influences, the most perfect reliance can be dliseed. Let our Southern Democratic friends con ed& calmly and in good faith these es sions off' a:4llam and-fried Dcmaeraciy of these Northern vid 'I4O-rtinvestern States. In their coml.:Achim:id alliances against Ithe aggressive apirit of ~.the Northern Repilbli cans, let them recollect, as Kentuckyi fuus done, ihattheL :Union has as many warm friends among us as it has in the South. We have for years ceetended with our power against.this spirit of aggeftafion land wrong, of which the South so justly com plains. ThePernoarate of the loyth have madeheavy and constant 95416) 1 4.40 t Tour constitutional rights might not he invaded. We are with you not , as we hafe alikays been. We'have no taint . A.l:o3flt ` ior 4 stn. It is right, and just that yotx should.-gime us -credit for what we have claw - end for th e po sition which we,,ithall'ever cilintihne to cree py. We stand by the Union and the ron- stitutional tights of .030 titaterv. Thee is where our champion stands. With Dmlglas and the Cincinnati platform , illinois, Indiana, and •we fain hope, Peinnaylvania and New York can be carried for - the. Na tional P!uperacy. We do not ask yoii to, fraternize 'with those who would trample upon your rights and revolutionize 1011 t do mestic institutions... We say join fiends with us and we can and will •defeat our common entaqty-4he enemies of the Union. Igen t acky has set you a l noble example. In 'denouncing the Mad agitators of the North she has made a glorious exception of the true and tried Democratic men who have ever set their influence against fanati cism And sectionalism. In your non-inter course onnapaets, .retaember your friends. In yqiir necessary 'itletdings with the North, recollect that we .are your allies—not your enemies. .This will give, us additional strength IA work for „the good cause, In denouncing _the.. anctiOrtal agitators who ' would endanger the thaion, .give us such comfortel4.fa6iiiaime our efforts are appreciated as 11-euttick-y, in its late Mate Convention, has done. We go for Douglas, the Cincinnati plat form and the Union. Although in the count of Democratic States you outnumber uis„. still when it comes to the count of Demo: cratio Luda.' ,the North polls more than double as many Democratic votes as the en tire South. The cause of Democracy is one of no dividedinterest:- 'lt is a mutual cause in which both sections of the country are alike interested for success. I f the Opposi tion is to be .defeated next year, the Demo crats of the South must strengthen the hands • of their brethren of the North. We hav r- e pointed out in Mr. Douglas, Popular Sove eigrk ritif.,;the Cinnati 'Plit - tform, the means by dunk the Sectional Opposition. party of the North can be routed in 1860. If, in the wisdom of its multitude of counsela*Jtke Gh4leiston Convention, when it shall, assemble.* April .next, can devise a platfOrm and select a candidate with whom we can be equally contain of' puccesa-- - we of the North shall devote all °Of political power to the success of that platform and the election of that candidate. 'But thfi South must, not,..mistake nor overlook the indications of molar feeling in the North, which the . recent Democratic Conventions have given. But I went on to make some further eneuir les respecting some occurrence which I was in formed took place at the Fremont procession, while I wasubsent from the State. My object was in formatimi, I would have been glad if I had been misinformed, or that there had been some mistake For the honor of the itepublican party, I sincerely hoped that it was so. As re spects the obliterating the Mewl stars from the federal flag, he denies the fact,so far as his own observation is concerned, while my informant still insists upon it. As it must have been a matter of public notoriety, there must be many others who can disprove or prove the fact.
