Klober, in another column, that they shortly expect another fine lot of the celebrated Steinway piavus, with improved full iron frame, overstrings, ,lee. These instru ments have become exceedingly popular here of late, and the Messrs. Kleber inform us that the supply is altogether inadequate to the de mand fur them. They have sold, as it appears, two separate lots of them during the holidays, and are at this moment without a single piano of that make iii tke warerooma. A low days more will see them again well supplied there with, and we take pleasure in apprising our readers of that fact. BURNED To Deers.--Ou Wednesday after noon Airs. Harris, the wife of a tailor, at work in Kittanning, who resides in the third story of a house un Isabella street, a few doors from Federal, Allegheny, went down stairs, about four o'clock, leaving her son, a little fellow of two years and a half old, in the room. Soon after she heard screams, and on returning to the apartment, found his clothes on tire and the child enveloped in flames. He was terribly burned, co much that he lingered in great pain through the night, and died on Thursday morn ing. The Coroner held an inquest and the jury fou•ld a verdict in accordance with the facts. ICE.—Workmen are engaged in cfttting from the Allegheny river, beluw the Suspen sion bridge, ice for the ensuing summer. The river is broken nearly half way across. The ice has a thickness of six to eight inches, is clear as crystal, and is better than what we were obliged to nse last season. The supply is plentiful, and our dealers are taking advantage of the fact to fill up their houses at the earliest possible time, and prevent the scarcity of last year. Discrinnuan —John Gallagher, who has been for some time confined to prison for the alleged murder of Mr,. Gallagher, who died on Prospect street last fall, as was then said from the effect of cruelty on the part of John Gallagher, and upon whose body two coroner's inquests were held, the physicians before the latter testifying that death ensued from natu ral causes, notwithstanding which the jury ad hared to their verdict, implicating Gallagher. ge was disaharged yesterday byJudge M'Clure, the grand jury having ignored the bill against THE NEW Coo Nous meet at eleven o'clock to-day, in their chambers, for the purpose of receiving the returns of the late election, rand organizing for the present year. Gammt Co.—A prisoner in the Waynes burg jail, on a ebarge of rope, escaped on Fri day last, under the following circumstances:— It appears that a gentleman had gone up into the "loft" of the '•institution" for the purpose of getting a bag of oats, and left his son at the outside door to prevent the escape of any pris oners, when this man (Henry Beeler) came from his cell, with a large club in his hand, and told the boy to let him pass or he would kill him. The boy stood aside and let the vil lain escape. The Sheriff of the county was away from home. Up to this time no clue to the runaway has been had. WESTMORLAND COUNTY.--On last Saturday, a man named George Shaffer, a weaver, resi ding in South Huntingdon township, produred a jug of whisky, and got drunk. At night, while warming himself, he fell backwards into the lire and was severely burnt before relief reached him. At last accounts it was thought he would not recover. On Christmas day a man named William Cairns, residing at Eagle Coal Works, one mile West of Irwin Station, bad his hand terribly lacerated by the acci dental discharge of a pistol which he was hand ling—the ball entering the Wrist, end passing out at the top of the hand. From her knees to her shoulders, she was burned almost to a crisp—the most severe burns being on her back. She lingered in great pain all Sunday morning, when she died. Deceased was only sixteen years old. AasisritoNu Co.—On Tuesday morning lest, a little child, named Charles, son of Mr. Wm. Jack, of Kittaning, was accidentally burned tb death. M --- THE: ART EX RIBITION.—The managers of the art exhibition, now in progress at Morton's Hall, last week informed us that they would probably close with this week, to-night or to morrow nig ht, spit we trust they may recon sider their determination and give to the pub lic the privilege of enjoying, this tine collection for a longer period. There are, we know, many of our citizens who have not seen it., and many who would gladly go again. The expe riment has been a success, and although•tbe receipts have not been extravagant, they have been sufficient to defray the expenses, and we hope that. so long as the number of daily visi tors will cover the expenses of gas, rent and insurance, we hope it may be kept open, at least a week or so longer. THE FRANKLIN BANQUET AND BALL.—The committee of the Typographical Union, who have in charge the banquet and ball, to take place on the 17th inst., the anniversary of Franklin's birthday, are using all exertions to make it pass off pleasantly. We have been shown specimens of the invitations and akets, which are models of typography, executed with commendable taste. The other details are in progress, and we have no doubt but the occa sion will be more interesting than any of like character for years, and that the attendance will be large. DISCI! Ho has a full assortment of standard works, and is constantly receiving additions thereto. Wo would advise an ex amination of his stock. THE ORPHANS' FAIN., at City Hall, still continues to attract many visitors. It will re main open but a few days longer, and those who contemplate a visit should go soon. THE SUPERLNTENDET Or THE DIAMOND Maxim Alm vas MARILLI Comarrom—At a meeting of the Market committee on the 81st ult,, the accounts of the Diamond Market were examined, and found to be cor rect. The amount collected and paid to the Treasurer of the Market end the City Treasurer for the year 181,0 was $11,002 TO, and a balance of $2 88 cash in hand. The amount collectedein 18Mi, was 510,001 88. It will be seen that the increas of the receipts ot the present over those of last year is $lO2 80. Thin increase is more notable on account of the fact that for more than two mouths ot the year, while improvements on the market house were In progress, a considerable portion of the revenue was cut off. This Publication is made to counteract the effect of certain idle rumors which have been circula ted respecting the inability , of the Superintendent to settle his account. He always to and always will be ready to settle correctly and produce his vouchers. Mr. Bingham, of Ohio, and others, objected to the resolution. Mr. Montgomery. of Pennsylvania said that Mr. I,,;ollisx yesterday attacked Ida former pro position for a temporary organization, on the grounds of its tieing a violation or the Consti tution lie had offered it in good faith. We are in debt to the mail contractors to the amount of lour millions of dollars. It is an honest debt, honestly contracted, for as. service honestly performed. It is not a Democratic, Republican or American debt, but a national debt. If the House should adopt his proposi tion, they could pass the Postoffice appropria tion bill and redeem the credit of the nation. Mr. Wilson. of Indiana, said that if the gentleman was anxious to pay the debt, he would ask him to adopt the Plurality Rule now. He renewed his resolution. Mr. ;itevens raised the point that the resolu tion was nut in order; that previous to entering on husineas an act of t;ongress requires that the oath shall be administered to the Speaker, and by him to the clerk and all the members, and no resolution „r this body Can repeal it. The proposition is therefore an absurdity. The cases referred to by Mr. Montgomery are net applicable to hie resolution. Here the matter rested. Mr. Reagan of Texas, resumed his remarks from yesterday: insisting that the Republicans disregarded the obligations of the Constitution, and invaded not only the rights of the people, but the reserved rights of the States. Their candidate for Speaks. had not said that the doctrines of the Helper book were treasonable . The fact that there are men who will no t r ,, s . pert the Constitutional obligations, is one of the startling features of the times, and has raised an intense feeling in the Southern Stows. All patriotic i tnen should come together, rising above the ordinary prejudices on transient questions, and meet the common enemy wboss success would increase the danger to the per petuating of the Confederacy. A running discussion followed, parties crim inating and recriminating. 1 he House proceeded to ballot for Speaker. F.rst ballot: Sherman 104, lacking three of election. Vallandingham had ti 9. American vote scattering. Second ballot; Sherman 103; Bocock b 5; others scattering. A running debate followed, mostly of per sonal explanation, until six o'clock, when the House adjourned. There seems to be more anxiety evinced to organize. From appearances, Sherman will be finally elected. It is merely a question of time. AItRISOURU, January s.—llousE —The committee appointed to revise the standing committee reported. Mr. O'Neill offered an amendment that all applications for charters to inco}porate pas senger railways be referred to the members from the locality in which the road may be located. The Speaker ruled the amendment out of order at the present time. Mr. Strong favored the appointment of a committee on the subject, and spoke highly of the utility and importance of these roads. Mr. Abbott moved to strike out from the re port the_ provision to appoint a committee on passenger railways. This question led to a protracted debate, pending when 12 o olock ar rived, the hour fixed fur the selection of a committee to try the contested election of Thomas W. Duffield. The doors were closed.
