I'SBURGH . POST•
Toles Bromes Sang Fruit!.
Upon the authority of the Charleston
correspondent of the Baltimore American,
it is stated that Sadler, the undertaker r a
day nr two before the execution, sent a mbs
sage to Brown, telling him he bad better
have a metalic coffin in which his remains
mieht be taken to his home in New York.
His reply was that he did not think a me
talic coffin necessary, as the weather would
be cool, and he thought be would keep in
a common walnut coffin a sufficient length
of time. for the purpose suggested by Mr.
Sadler.
Unfortunate Banking
A merchant in St. Anthony had lost from
his money drawer lately a number of bank
bills at various times, and could not account
for their loss, and all attempts to trace them
by marking, &c., were unavailing, arid he had
almost given up the idea of detecting the thief,
when on pulling the drawer entirely out, ho
found under the counter a nest, compoi43.l entire
ly-of bank bills, in which were four dead mice.
The last one stolen was on The State Bank Of
Minnesota," badly gnawed. There was not
enough vitality in it to keep the mice alive, or
there was a poisonous ingredient, that laid them
out cold.—St. Paul Piooner,
Old Oil Pits
The Philadelphia Ledger mentions a singu
lar fact in connection with the recent coal oil
discoveris in Pennsylvania. In many places
in the valley of Oil Creek, the ground is cov
ered with pits, hundreds and thousands of
them, evidently dug for the purpose of gather
ing oil, and at a period so remote that trees,
two hundred and fifty years old are growing
over them. The query is by whom were
thue pits dug, and for what purpose was the
oil gathered?

a and Recommended fn, Eminent Physleians.
DR. CLARKE, the inventor of theseeelebrated
Pills. is justly distinguished for his eminent abilities and
sciertific research. For ,20y ears in Ins extensive practice
he experimented in bringing the great desideratum of a
remedial agent to act a a direct purifier upon the hu
man system. In this he has been eminently successful,
as the numerous certificates from celebrate!' physicians
show. They ure extremely mild in their operation, at
the same time powerful and effective in removing dis
ease. They never givve pain, as do most purgatives, but
allay it in all cases. ]n acutiicases they are more speedy
in their relief than any Fill now offered.
The proprietor is pleased to announce that he has per

medicine than BRANDREITH'S PILL y. They opdrate
only spon the tissues involved in. that to elected by the
disease. In fact they seize upon those humors, not flu
much from preference 113 from natural alTinity, because
their life is below that of the surrounding parts, and
Which, settling on the tissues of the throat, that is, around
the throat region, produces sore throat, sore throat pThisit,

after four or sit 0119 are taken, there is felt a peculiar
creeping in the part attacked, a sort of collecting up of
the diseased humors ready for expulsion. No hurt or
weakening effect can ever arise from their use, because
they cannot act upon healthy parts. Taken early they
prevent all organic diseases oh. lion important in sick
