BEIER MIMMIM .11 PITTSBURGH _POST "" •;V: , Sir Edward - Huh/6i Lytton, in a - lecture re cently delivered in England, gave the follow ing account of his literary. habits ; • Many persons seeing me so much engaged in active life, and as much about the world'as if I had never been a sttident, have said to me —"When do you get time to write all your books? How on earth do_you contrive to do. so much work?" 1 shall surprise you by the answer I make. The answer is this: con trive to do so much by never -doh'. too much at a time. A man to get through well, must not overwork himself, or, if he do too much to-day, the reaction of fatigue will come, and lie will be obliged to - do too little to-mor row. Now, since I began really and earnestly to study, which was not until I had left col lege and was actually in the world, I may per haps say that I have gone through as large a course of general reading as most men of my time. I have traveled much, and have seen much I haie mixed much in politics, and the various business of life; and in addition to all this, 1 haye published somewhere about sixty volumes, some upon subjects requiring much research. And what time do you think as a general rule, I have devoted to study—to read ing and writing ? Not more than three hours a day; and when Parliament is sitting, not al ways that. But then, during those hours, I have given my whole attention to what I was about. MEER IMMO " MA, has Amity got bees in her mouth ?" "No ; why do you ask such a question?" I' Because that little man with a heap of hair on his face, cotelied hold of her, and told her he was going to take the honey from her lips ; and she said: Well make haste I" ALL OUR DEPARTMENTS ! !
