IMPORTANT TO SOLDIERS, — The |
~tate Legislatureat Harrisburg recent-
lv passed a bill, which provides that |
the discharge papers of soldiers who |
served in the late war may be recorded
in the Register’s Office in each county.
In this way the fact of having an hon-
orable discharge from the service may
be preserved by thesoldier; buta copy
of sueh county record according to ex-
isting rules, will not supply the place
of the original discharge certificate in
case of an application to the govern-
ment for bounty, land, back pay, ete,
in all such cases the certificate of dis-
charge itself must be produced to the
proper authorities at Washington,
Soldiers should remember this and
carefully preserve their certificates of
discharge from: being lost or destroyed
whether they be recorded in the office
of the county recorder or not.

Prompted by some horrible instinct of
fiendishness the boy seized a poker.
When the mother returned the baby
was nearly dead. Ome eye was put

Tue second great period in the life
