The stolen articles were found at the residence or

ship, was brought into Court, and after solemnly
promising not to injure Mr. RO3/11, and pledging
himself not to drink any more intoxicating liquors,
he was discharged.
His case affords another proof of the necessity
of our having a Lunatic Asylum established in this
city. Miller is at present, scarcely sufficiently sane
to be allowed to go at large, and yet it is herd, that
he should be confined in jail, and dieted on the
bread and water fare which he would receive
there. Solitary confinment is surely not the best
means of restoring a shattered mind to health.

The Court then adjourned, having gone through
the criminal calendar, so tar as the cases were
ready far trial. The weather during the cession,
has been exceedingly warm, yet the court has
punctually sat from eight A. M., to between six

Commonwealth vs George H. Bell—ludictemat
—Assault and Battery committed on Michael Mc.
Math. The witnesses in ibis case were Mr. Me.
Math, Mr. Norton, a boarder at the Perry house,
and the barkeeper of that establishment (Mr. Knox,
we:believe). Mr. MeMath's testimony was to the
effect, that he had meth friend able, ?dz. Rhine_
hart, who was stopping at the Perry House, one
eight at a fire, and he told him that Mr. Norton,
smother friend of Mr. MoMath's was also stopping
them, and wished to see hint. The next day (Tues•
day) he went around, and stepping up to the bar
keeper, asked him if Mr. Norton were in. He said
that he area not in the bar room, and was probably
either up stairs in the parlor, or in his room, at the
same time desiring him to step up. In going along
the passage which led to the stairs, he met and
nodded to Mr. Bell, with whom ha states he had
several conversations previously, and with whom
he had never quarreled. When first at the toot of
