Sttious Accident.—A Utile boy, between fi va
and aix year* old, was attempting to cross ibe
street, at the corner of Wood and Fourth streets,
when be was knocked down by the horse attach
ed lo a dray which was passing by, and shocking
ly braised. The drayman, in his confusion, backed
his horse, and the dray parsed over the child again,
and as he advanced afterwards, again. The child,
who is an orphan, and deaf and dumb, was taken
into the drag store of J. Kidd 4c Co., where his
woui.ds were dressed by Dr. Soyder, who pro
uouncea him out of danger.
The drayman was driving at a trot at the lime,
and was in company with some seven or eight
others.
We very recently called the attenuou of the
public to the danger of such a coufte of proceeding
as this. Drnys frequently go in strings of twenty
or thirty, up Wood street, so that persons wishing
to cross the street have to wait along time.
Sanitary Committer. —The Sanitary Commit

that comes under Iheir observation. They have

LOCAL MATTERS.
Pice Pcceet. —A gentleman who bad just ar
rived in the caaal packet boat from Philadelphia,
had his pocket picked on Thursday night, of a
purse containing two hundred and seventy five
dollars.
No cine has been yet found to the perpetrator
of this robbery.
Drowned. —A young lad of about b years of
age, named Theodore Low.waa drowned on Thurs
day night tn the Monongahala river. He was step
ping from the steamboat Messenger to the Michi
gan, when he slipped, and fell into the water. His
body has not yet been recovered.
The Mator informs us that the person who told
him about the two dead bodies having been left
in the Seventh Ward burying ground, was mis
taken.
He saw the coffin containing the remains of
poor Tuttle there, sod his fears magnified
el in another part of the grave yard into a

Theatre. —Mr Holland, the comedian, makes
hi* first appearance 10-aigbt, m the “Day after the
Fait.”
Most Octraoeoc*. —We give below, a com
munication from a very worthy and much respect
ed citizen, with regard to the assertion made in
tho Despatch, relative to the alleged refusal of the
Rev. Mr. Paasavint lo lake poor Tuttle, who died
at the house of Dr. Penniman, on Wednesday
night, into his hospital. All we nave L> say in the
matter, is, that the assertion of the Despatch is *
positive falsehood, ao far as regard* the Rev. Mr.
Passavam, who t# one of our most benevoienl
citixens,-and that before giving statements of this
kind, an editor should alwayi be sure that he is
right. If the sisters of mercy refused to take
Tuttle in, we ere rare that they had a good reason
for it: .
In the Dispatch of yesterday, a statement t*
made, professedly on the authority of Doctor
M’Crackeo—though nothing of the kind appear*
in the Doctor's fetter —that Tuttle, the cholera
patient, ,l was refused admission into Rev. Mr
Pissavaat* Infirmary." On the atrength cl' this,
the local editor uudertokes to read Mr. Paasavaat
a lecture "for refusing to shelter and succor a
dying fellow mortal,” and talk* of the sisters of
mercy and him “not illustrating their faith by their
works,* Ate. Now, it turns oat, however, that Mr-
Pas savant was never applied to by the Sanitary
Commute*, or any other person. There was not
ooly no refusal on his part lo receive this unhappy
man. but immediately on hearing the facts in the
case, Mr. P requested a friend lo procqre a per
mit, and have the man removed to the Infirmary
without delay. On going to the place where the
wagon had been wa» Imtud that he
already had bceu taken m a t«enevolenl phy»i.
