" Nnesus.a,S.lnnirr Camrr,Omo.t. April 29th, ISIS. S To the Editors of the Pittsburgh Garrate. As the big bugs are giving ,you their notions about the Presidency, 1 think it won't hurt you to have a few ideas from me, on that subject: and, in the first place, I will tell • you who I' am—l am a Pennsylvania Ducthmen, by birth, without attn. - tion, and a farmer by occupation; and one of the few Pennsylvania Dutchmen who were, are, and always will be, Whig. Now you will be able pro perly to judge Of the value of what I shall say.— But, to the pcint—Taylor cannot get the vote of Ohio, in his present position, or in nay other peal lion. And. lithe Whig Convention nominates Mr. Clay, it is exceedingly doubtful that he will receive the vote of Ohio; and f fear he cannot get it, unless . Mr. Polk should be his opponent—then he can.— The intelligent, iron Wings of Ohio all prefer Clay. to any other man, bat thousands think he cannot be elected. The find ala Very fueling is so strong In the Whig ranks, that it is impossible, at thin time, to rally all the Whigs on any candidate living ,in a slave state. The proceedings of conventions are not always adrue index of public opinion, because only the in telligent act there, and the tenses are back, and not heard. In 1844, from appearances, we should hove had from ten to twenty thousand of a majority. in Ohio. There were Names of changes from the Locos, and still we only had about 6,000 majenty, and the only reason was, that Clay was unpopular With also great mass of unintelligent voters; and it is so, more or less, in other States. If Mr. Clay is nominated; we will vote for him, but we will go into the contest timid and doubting. Mr. Tilden, our delegate to the convention, will doubting... Scott. If SOnt is nominated, he will sweep over Ohio like a tornado: bl'Lean would take Ohio also—so would Corwin. If we am to have a military can didate, Scott is the man—if a civilian, M'Leaa is the tuna. M'Leatt was appointed Judge by Jack son, and that argument aloncovould be sufficient with my Dutch Loccdoco brethren, and shield him from nil anceetstul attacks. Harrison, Clay, and Scott were before the Ilarrisburgh Convention, in 1810. Harrison was nominated—Clay stood next; and his turn came in 1814. Now Scott's turn has come. I vote for no man because he fought in the Mexican war, or any other war; bat a man having done so,liisljection provided lie is, honest, fit, and available. Some think military men should not be elected resident, been'e there is danger of their lam_ Il_ m rag the j.counWy in wiz,. for slight reasonk This not so. Them is less danger of that from a ronest and.iotelligeat general than from a jatkriss Ames K. Polk. We must save the notion from Loco Foco rule, and we know fiat the ignorant mass are led by excitement and fiction, more than by principles or truth; and we know that they can decide all political ques tit= for good or ill to the country; and it is our duty as at - to avail ourselves of the chance of directing- the rabble of the nation in a right course, and save the country from impending ruin. The loco Focos are better up to leading the igno rant masses than the Whigs—hence their slimes. at elections. Theydried to lie down Harrison, but could not come it. They lied down Clay in '44, add I tear would in 'Sc; and I tear would do so with Saint Corwin; but Scott and bfLean are lie proof,as far •as a vailibility of the men is concern ed.' Owingto a disarrangement in the Boston Telegraph, the news only reached here this morning, by rail road, and horse express. In Grent,Britein r affaira are much im when the America sailed, if we except Ireland, which is much excited, and apparently upon the verge of France is rapidly getting into confusion, and the city of Paris is being filled with troops front all parts of the country, to support the Provisional Government, the destruction of which has been at. tehipted by Ledru Rollin. The cause of his hos tility 'is said to be found in the tendency of the go= vernment to be ruled by the opinions of the Rom , geoise, rather than by the mob. of which be is the reelesentitlive. The English House of Commons have passed the Security Bill, by an overwhelming majority, and adjourned over the Easta Holidays. Meet. ings in favor of the Charter have been held in al most.avery Gawn of note, and the Convention has adjourned, Mier uppointing deputations to visit the Provinces, and adopting u Petition to the Queen praying, for the dismission of her Minister. In acme districts, the middle classes have fraternised: with the Chartists; and at Birmingham and Not. tingham, meetings of merchants, favorable to some of the points in time Charter had been held. The deplorable state - of Ireland, apparently on the verge pia civil war; continues to occupy the attention of all classes. The dillerences of opinion between the Reperders, headed by O'Connell, and the party led on by Mr. Mitchell, become greater every day. The Rent, has fallen to - - )ft per week, and it is evident that in MonerictdMajority of the Irish pect-ile are in !bier of measures of outrage. The whole of the forces were under arms, consisting. of 330,000 National Guard., nod Guards 'Mobile; which, with roao troope of the Line, marched around the Bourevarda, with colors flying, attended by a band in which were fifty drums. The procession took eight hours in parsing a given point. The greatest enthusism prevailed, and the moot kindly disposition was ma. s infestedlowarde the troops by the National Guards. ThePrOvisionid Government, especially the model rale part of it, will be strengtheaed immensely by this demonstration. ; A scheme having become krimmi, by which the Prince do Joinville was to be preferred President' of the Republic, a decree will shortly appear banishing . the whole Orleans dynasty. La martine has proposed no alliance, of tension and defensive, between. the French and Swiss Republics. On Sunday. the 10th, Paris was ihe scene of the most extraordinary commotion. Ledru Rain, possessing immense intlnence with the Communist party, was able to a.seinhic an immense concourse to the Clinrup . de Mars, where .he harraagued thorn in a most inflammatory moaner and the Government was compelled to call en the National Guards, Mobiles, and the reginicnis of the Line: nearly 200,000, with cannon, were pleat ed at the lintel de Ville, and a bloodless restarts. bon of order was cflimited. Fora brief spare, it seemed as if the old reign ef terrors,. to be re. vice& The moderate members of the Govern. meat did not commit the mistake of the Girondists of '92, but saved the Capital byn hold resort to thew military resources. Blannuttand Cibet, the latter a member of the Provisional government, are mid to have been nr• eserted. Arrests of protaiment commenots hare beenthade. - The communists wore the red ro. seue of the', Mesita guards; and the moderato maw tricolor of the Girondists. Panics in Paris seem to be divided as in the find revolt, not but wirde the communists are probably less sanguine. .ry than the old terrorists, the moderate party are more firm, more energetic and stronger than the Girondins of 1759 and Matters in Paris have reached a entival point,—,nto of these crises when the fate of a nation rests on the cent:m.l of one great man.
