(girsn oneonragemant to tbe enemy. | RELIGIOUS INTELLIGENCE. The Prubyterian contains a length; ac count bfj-the proceedings of the General esembly of the Presbyterian Church in the Confederate States of America, A. D, . from which we condense the follow ing brief synopsis: It is stated in. the first day s minute, "in riew of the conflicting armies m the near vicinity of the city of Memphis," and the consequent danger and difficulty of assembling at that place, tho Assembly met in the city of Mont gomery, Alabama, the Ist day of Mav I«S2. Dr. Palmer, the Moderator, did not nd it convenient to be present Dr. Kirk patnok, Of North Carolina, was elected Moderator, and Dr. T. L. Mcßride, of South Carolina, Temporary Clerk. Thirty-one ministers and sixteen ruling elders were present The Rev. Dr. Leyburn, formerly one of the editors and proprietors of the Prubytmcn, was present as a delegate from New Orleans, and was Chairman of the Committee on Bills and Overtures. The business of the Assembly, and the Reports from the various Boards, correspond with the doings of the legal General Assembly. Very little was done in foreign missions, though the report states "that, letters and funds had been forwardedte them, (mission aries) through the Bank of Llverpool,.by way of Tampico and the West Indies.” Dr. l-eyburn, Secretary of Domestio Missions,' reports forty missionaries. The Commit tee of Publication reported they had made arrangements with the Publishing House of the M. E. Church (South) in Nashvilje to publish a Sabbath School paper for their use ; but this was frustrated, say the Com mittee, “by the political misfortune befall- 1 ing that city." It i s proposed to issue a Children’s Paper in Richmond, provided, we may say, Burnside don’t occupy Rich mond. The Narrative of the State of Re ligion, is lean of spiritual results. It closes by exhorting the churches to "continue in the steadfast discharge of their Christian' and patriotic duties, fcc.” After a session of only four days,' the Assembly was dissolv ed, and another ordered to meet in Colum bia, S. C., on the first Thursday of May. 1803. We may add, provided— At-the annual meeting of the Eran gelical Alliance, recently held in London, a letter from Paris was read, recommend ing t iat an address be presented to the chore les in America, expressing sympathy with those contending for freedom, and urging the North to be still more decided against slavery. This good indication oir French Christian sentiment produced a spirited discussion, in which some of the speakers showed a seemingly wilful ignor ance of the real facte of the Southern rebel lion. It is stated a Rer. My Btrks, M A_ actually treated a British audience tea Bible argument for the justice of slarery !
