Senate and Howe of Repreeentatives of the United States of Amer ica in angina Aesenabled, That it sluill' be the duty of the Register of Washingtoit City, and of the respective clerks of the city of Georgetown and the Levy. Court of Washington county, .in the District of Columbia, within one month after the pas- - sagest thialtet, and en or ,before the-first ilefotFobrittery, lii,eseh,letir thereafter to, make a list of such of the white male citi zens, fax-payers, residing Within their re spectivejurisdictions, as they shall judge best qualified' to serve es jurors in the courts of the said District, in which lists may be included, in ;the discretion of the officer inelditi, the , wale; the names of such qualified persons as were on the list of the previeus year but did not serve as jurors, and the,lists thus made by the reg ister and clerics:,aforesaid shall be kept by them respectiiely; — and be delivered over to their successors in office. SEC. 2./And be it further enacted, That the officers aforesaid shall 'select from the lists ofthe register of Washington city the names, of four hundred 'persons; and from that of the clerk r .ttfi teeorgetown eighty persons, and from that of tbelevy court / forty persons, whicli proportion . , after the year eighteen hundred and stxty-three, may be varied from year to year according to theincreitso or decrease of poPulation in the respective jurisdictions , by order of the judges of the circuit court of Washington county. And be it lert.ther enacted, That the Mayors of thetities of Washington and Georgetown, all TjitiliCiarofficers, salaried officers of the Government of the United States, commissioners of police ' and those connected-with the police or fire depart.
