(The Right to Freedom Vindicated, The New York World bolongs to the con servative class that give the cold shoulder to the oppressed colored race. It may not be exaetiy pro-slavery, but it might as well be for all the benefit the enslaved will ever derive I from its teachings. It has had the grace, how-' ever, to publish from a Kansas correspondent ‘a most complete vindication of the right j>f the slave to freedom. The statements made are most satisfactory, and wa hare seen them verified from other authentic souroes. One of the Maplains, whose oames are mentioned,-is well known to many in this region, and his statement is of a similar character with the following: Fobt Scott, Kansas, Dec. 25, 1661. With the approach of cold ■ weather the question will arise in many minds : “What is the condition of the slaveswho have been lib erated in the summer campaign ?" And the consideration of it will bring out grave ob-' jcotions.from those who are opposed to eman cipation. Many who abhor the system, of slavery for its inherent injustice are yet be sot with a shrinking fear of the results of emancipation from its supposed injurious ef fects upon the physical condition of the negro. The fugitive, their fancy suggests, is a trem bling wi'etch fleeing from present ills to those he knows not of. They see him with a little bundle on his back, running from a comfort able home, a warm climate, probably a kind master, to cast himself upon; the cold charities of a froien North—his.ultimate fate starva tion or a workhouse. I am happy to bo ablo to pht my experience —an. extensive one with Lane's brigade—in oppositioh to this popular'idea of a “con traband,” and I propose to state tho present' condition of the ■ two thousand liberated by the march of th 4 Kansas army. These ne groes were owned principally by-secessionists, but where * the question was of freedom or slavery for themselves the negroes failed :to make any each distinction ; and .when , they, sougbt our camp thoy were protected, and no questions were asked as to-the political etatat* 'of their* former masters. :i Families came in— sometimes three generations in a single wagon;, sometimeea man or woman fled ; away, leaving all family tios to’secure porsonal liberty, daring untold dangers, enduring ration*pertis 'byj night .and greater dreadty day, never-feeling skfe till they 1 knew'they' were in the:Kansas camp; -.Om day, as we marched from Oscoola, wo saw throe men rid ing kt* full speed across the prairie. As they approached; we paw that one was a hogfo and the ethers white men in pursuit. - Fast came i the slave, but tho whites steadily gained, and one was in the act of catching' the bridle 'of the fugitive when a borderer dashed out'from thecolumnend.raiaed bisSbaipe's rifle. “Aboutface” went, the slave-catobers; and a' rifle ball sang an ominous- warning in -their ears as thoy mado off. -iu." ; j : I u" But night is their great .time. - Sixty, came - to camp in one evening, and, .os General Lane observed, of e n%ht for nig gers either.” We pat the able moo to work , 'immediately driving teams, cooking, gropm ing-the horses, and doing'all the extra'dutier of .the brigade. Baeh officer engaged one aa a instead -ef-.taking a soldier from his duty. In this manner they: earned from eight to ten dollarsa month.’' Parsons Moore, Fishec:and Fish, chaplaina of the brigade, started last month with a train ; ofnegroes -toestablish them ofa Kansas farms. . After three weeks these 7 gentlemen returned to .headquarters,, baring found comfortable situations for every, man, woman and; child under their charge: Many were hired as farm 7hand*, !bons4.'servants, at 'wages froth' eight to twelve dollars por month; and the least'effective 4 secured maces for tho winter* Where they-will be sure of food and clothing, with .good - chanees for . lucrative < employment. when spring opens. The fugitives arc gen erally shrewd'and industrious,'and tho far mers of Kansas gladly avail them a elves of this supply of laborer?.\ This is an assertion ■utterly#* variance with the general impression.
