ORGANIZATION.
The Convention convened at 10 o'
clock Moutox M'Micuael, of Phil
ad., temporary chairman. The only
disputed seats were those from Mont-f-omery
county, from which the sett
chosen at the regularly called con

by a committee) were admitted. Da

chosen President cf the Convention,
with the usual array of Vice Presi

the Convention adjourned until 3 o'
clock. ArDiTon General.
The canvass for this most import
ant officer, was most ardent, and con
tested through a dozen or fifteen bal
lots. The principal candidates were
Messrs. Cochran of York, Jordan
of Bedford, Lawrence of Washing
ton, Scllivan of Butler and Snyder
of Snyder. The three Western men
at first had a large majority, but not
lieing able to agree, the choice of the
Convention fell, finally, upon Mr.
Cochran, and ho was unanimously
nominated.
Mr. Cochran is at present Publish

the strong Democratic county of
York in the State Senate, of which he
was a distinguished Member. lie is
a well-read, sound lawyer, and as
such well qualified for the station to
which he is nominated. The only ob
jections wo have heard urged against
him during the canvass, were, that
lie was almost too clever a man to
say "No !" when he should, and that
he did not love the unceasing hard
work and watch required from that
sleepless and vigilant guardian of the
Treasury. We . have no personal
knowledge of the gentleman, and men
tion these public surmises in order to
make a full breast of the matter, and
for his own benefit. Confiding as
we do in the good sense and judg

and who adhered to him first and
last and having no confidence in the
fitness of his Lccompton opponent,
Mr. Wright we shall look and la

the office of Canal Commissioner by
the frauds ori856, and can hardly
be thus wronied again. His namo
was first suggested for this office, we
believe, in our columns, and althongh
not our first choice he shall have our
first vote. With anything like a fair
effort of the Opposition, his election
is conceded by men of all parties.
Scrvetob General.
For this office, "old Berks" made a
clean sweep. Messrs. Mann of Pot
