G. Hallimond, of Bowery Mission, to Speak at Meeting Tomorrow The Sunday afternoon men's meeting of Central Voting Men's Christian Association, are proving popular. To-morrow's meeting at 3.30 p. m. will be addressed by Rev. John G. Hallimond, superintendent of Bowery Mission, New York City. 1 He will speak on "The Salvaging of Humanity on the Bowery." While the Bowery has put to flight the foes of vice and crime, it still has on its hands the tremendous fight against poverty and destitution, with drunkenness and degradation, not as causes but consequences, in grim alliance with them. Often have we heard about the limitless opportunities for any man who wants to work, but it is equally true, and infinitely more pathetic, that in the Bowery to-day there are thousands of men who are unable to secure employment, and who are consequently suffering the indescrib able misery of homelessness. hun ger and despair. There are also men who are phys ically unable to work. They are not sick enough to be eligible for hospital treatment, and many have been to the hospital and have been discharged "cured." But no em ployer, however hard up for help would, seeing their pale faces and emaciated forms, think of giving them a job.
