The causes of his disappear ance and what became of him are un known to them, his brother officials said. They are conducting a wide spread search for him. Made Bombs During the time that IvanofT was under observation, the Intelligence man said, it was discovered that he was a manufacturer of bombs. Among these bombs, teh officers said, were 3G which became known throughout the country as the Glinbel bombs, be cause they were sent in . wrappings purporting to come from Gimbel Brothers' Store in New York. These wrappings, officials said, were faked, and Gimbel Brothers had no connec tion, other than the forged use of! their name, with the handling of the j infernal machines. The Gary offic-1 ials said they had discovered that j these 36 bombs were carried to New j York from Gary in suit cases. Expert Electricians Ivanoff, the alleged bomb maker, they said was an expert electrician, | employed in a large mill near Gary.! There they claimed he started his bombs, taking them home for the fin ishing work. His plans, the officers asserted, included finally the destruc tion of the factory where he worked. The cache of the dynamite and its amount was not made public to-day, but an official who described it said j that he presumed there was enough to "blow about all northern Indiana' off the map." Two letters threatening the life of j Mayor W. F. Hodges, of Gary, were seized by military authorities. One' of these disclosed a plot to blow up j his residence. Captain W. S.
