Gettysburg, Pa., June 12.—1n the
presence of the largest number of
alumni who have gathered In re
cent years, the eighty-seventh an
nual commencement at Gettysburg
College was held yesterday morning, j
Twenty-eeven graduates received the '
degree of Bachelor of Arts and I
twenty were given that of Bachelor
- of Science. Two members of the
class who lost their lives in the war
were awarded diplomas posthum
ously.
Governor William C. Sproul, who
has the degree, of Doctor of Laws
from the college, was present and
extended greetings. The address to
the graduates was by Dr. J. A.
Faulkner, of Drew Theological Sem
inary. The salutatory was given by
Martin Luther Faust, of Ambler,
and the valedictory by Donald Fisher
Lybarger, of Harrisburg.
The following were presented

The board of trustees, after their
annual meeting, announced a change
of professors in one of the depart
ments, Dr. E. M. Baxter, of Hamp
ton, Va., taking the place of Dr. G.
B. Fundenbcrg in the departmeht
of romance languages. Dr. Raxter
is a graduate of Cornell University
and of the University of Aix,
France. Dr. Fundenberg will go to
Union College, "Schenectady, N. Y.,
to occupy the chair of romance lan
guages at that institution. E. Clar
ence Miller, of Philadelphia, was
elected a member of the board of
trustees.
