Food Administrator Hoover said it would he necessary to ship abroad for the American armies and the allied and neutral nations. 17,- 550,000 tons of meats, fats, bread stuffs, sugar and feed grains in the year ending July 1, 1919. This huge total represents 5,730,- 000 tons more than was. shipped in the year ending July 1, 1918. The magnitude of the task is further em phasized by the fact that this sur plus alone is 197,000 tons greater than the entire annual shipments based upon the average for the three years before the war.
