"oleo" law in the Keystone state.
Mr. Foust calls for any informa
tion showing that anyone has been
offered privileges and informs Mr.
Heney that if he gets it he will re
move the man wpo made the prom
ise and lay the matter before the at
torney general of the state for prose
cution.
Mr. Foust's letter quotes the coun
sel for a big packing firm and makes
sharp comment upon the assertions
in the letter in his communication
to Mr. Heney.
No Executive Session—The Public
Service Commission has designated
to-morrow and Thursday for hear
ing applications for approval of mu
nicipal contracts and other matters,;
but there will be no executive ses
sion until August 19.
Two Decisions—Chairman Harry
A. Mackev, of the State Compensa
tion Board has handed down opin
ions providing for compensation in
two cases in which new hearings
were held. The compensation is
a lowed in Eckert vs. Superior Coke
Company, and Husail vs. Crucible
Fuel Company. The board will meet
late in the month to hand down de
cisions.
To Ship Trout—Preparations are
being made at state fish hatcheries!
for the first shipments of adult trout

tion. The work is being started
earlier than usual because of trans
portation conditions.
Mackey to Preside Chairman
Harry A. Mackey, of the Workmen's
Compensation Board, has accepted
an invitation to preside as chairman
of the Statistical Session of the con
vention of the International Asso
ciation of Industrial Accident Boards
and Commissions at Madison, Wis
consin on October 9. The invitation I
to Chairman Mackey was extended
by Royal Meeker, United States Com
missioner of Labor and Statistics who

The bulk of the counties have been
certified for 1911 payments, those
for 1910 and 1912 having been met
last year when an aggregate of sl,-
875,470.40 was appropriated to pay
arrears due to the townships under
the acts of 1905 and 1909. The bonus
system was abolished by the Legis
lature of 1915 after it was found
that the state was not meeting its
obligations to the townships by ap
propriations and it is figured out
that the next general assembly will
be called upon to appropriate sl,-
142,049.38 to square accounts for
1913 and 1914.
Ready For Soldiers—Over 40,000

four camps where Pennsylvanians

Object to Fare—Residents of Mt.
Bethel to-day filed complaint with
| the Public Service Commission
against the increase of fares on the
Bangor and Portland street railway
to six cents. The borough of Clairton
and residents of that place complain
ed against the service of the Monon
gahela Valley Water Company as in
adequate.
Humes Retires—E. Lowry Humes,
United States District Attorney for
Western Pennsylvania who resigned
recently to enter the army, to-day
resigned as a member of the National
Guard Reserves.
Fees Fixed—ln an opinion ren
dered to-day the Attorney General's
Department gives the state board of
examiners of public accountants, the
authority to make charges for pre
liminary examinations, the fee paid
to be credited on the final examina
tion. Twenty-five dollars is the max
imum to be charged.
New Policeman. —S. P. Batdorf, of
Lebanon, was to-day appointed a
special policeman for the Bethlehem
Steel Company.
Bond Approved.—The bond of W.
W. Muir, tho new sheriff of Warren
county, was approved to-day.
Investigate Pollution. —Investiga-
tion of causes of pollution of the
Susquehanna near Williamsport is
under way by state fish wardens as
complaints of hundreds of splendid
fish being killed by wastes have been
flooding the Capitol. It is believed
that paper mill or tannery waste is
ruining the waters and the source
will be traced.

eral Beary to-day issued orders dis
qualifying regimental officers from
serving on rifle teams at Mt. Gretna.

Young, of the State Department of
Labor and Industry, is attending the
Typographical convention at Scran

Mr. Patton Returns. Secretary of
Agriculture Patton has returned from
Chester county, where he spent the
weekend after the meeting of the
state-commission.
At the Mutches. Adjutant Gen
eral Beary and members of his staff
attended the rifle matches at Mt.
Gretna to-day.

missioner Daniel F. Lafean has re
turned from Camp Dix, where one of
his sons is an officer.

Leave For France Soon

South Cameron street, has written
home that he expects to leave soon
for France. He Is stationed at
Camp Jackson, South Carolina, with
base hospital No. 60. He is a son
of Mrs. Mary Reinhard.
Manning Consults

Warren H. Manning, the Boston
landscape architect and creator of
the Harrlsburg park system, spent
to-day discussing the park features
of the Capitol Park Extension and
the monumental bridge with Super
intendent George A. Shreiner.
"I am simply here to get some ad
ditional information," said he. "I
have been examining into the ques
tion of appi caches to the bridge at
the hill end which must be studied.
It will be a wonderful addition to
the pity as well as a part of the Cap
itol park system which will be a
matter of state pride when com
pleted."
