RETIRESUNDAY Expert Cabinet Worker Hails From Cumberland Valley; Is Known Here One of four veterans of the Pennsy who will retire from service on July I is George Washington Cramer, a cabinetmaker. He is a former resi dent of Middle Spring, Cumberland county, near Shippensburg. Mr. Cramer is a visitor here, where he has relatives. He is an ex pert craftsman in inlaid work. Mr. Cramer worked in the Pennsy shops at Altoona for thirty-six years. He was born May 13. 1850. He en tered the Pennsy service on Febru ary 13, 1880, at Altoona in the glue room of the cabinet shop under Fore man John Burlcy. He remained in this department up until it was moved to No. 1 planing mill two years ago. In Poor Health Hurlng February of this year Mr. Cramer was taken ill with pneu monia and. owing to ill health, has been compelled to relinquish his du ties. The veteran is an expert crafts man on Inlaid woodwork, he having formerly done most of the finer work on the wooden-style passenger cars put out by the Pennsy. Mr. Cramer has at his home many specimens of his handiwork in the form of boxes, >tands, bookcases and other articles. One box contains between 20,000 and 25,000 separate pieces of different colored wood, some fifteen kinds of natural wood being used in the con struction of the box. The veteran was twice injured while in the employ of the Pennsy. In 1882 he had his left wrist badly rut with a chisel and in 1913 his right hand and fingers were crippled when Ihe members were caught in a wood shaper. Mr. and Mrs. Cramer are planning to make their future home in Tyrone. Other shopmen who will retire are: John B. Keller, William K. Hetriek and William H. Stewart. Credit University is to Be Organized After War Chtcaso. —Plans have been out lined for a national university of Credit Men's convention at the Hotel National Institute of Credit, at the session of the National Association of Credit Men's convention at the Totel !„a Salle. It will be patterned after the American Institution of Banking and degreees will be conferred as by universities upon the completion of a regular curriculum. The project is an outgrowth of the war and is a step forward in line with preparations business is mak ing to meet world-wide competition following the declaration of peace. The prelimihary course has been worked out by an advisory commit tee, consisting- of Dr. J. T. Holds worth, dean of the School of Eco nomics, University of Pittsburgh; Dr. W. Gerstenberg, director of the department of finance. New York University School of Commerce. Ac counts and Finance, and Dr. W. 1,, l.ord. dean of the School of Business Administration, Boston University. MANSIONS SOLD The sale of one of Harrisburg's landmarks, the Etter mansion, 007 North Front street, was completed yesterday by Mrs. Sarah M. Etter to Arthur F Nelson, departmental su perintendent of the Steelton plant of the Bethlehem Steel Company, for a consideration said to have been $24,- "00. Nelson sold his present home, tlie old Hildrup mansion. Nineteenth and Nelson streets, to A 1 K. Thomas, ••ashier of the East End Bank, for a sum estimated to have been 130,000. WOMEN REGISTER The registration of German alien female enemies brought out the fact that there are at least eighteen un naturalized German women in the city. This was the number regis tered by Complaint Clerk Busch. More than a hundred women applied tor information, but did not come under the class of German alien enemies. RELEASED OX SI,OOO BAIL Charged with conducting a disor derly house, Mary J. Fannassy, 107 Washington street, was yesterday released from the Dauphin county jail under SI,OOO bail. Jean Martin, a girl inmate, was also released yes terday under SSOO bail. Arrests were made by county authorities. STOI.E SILK SHIRTS Graver Fowler, alias' George Wil liams. who was arrested early this morning on the charge of stealing three silk shirts from stores in the city, will be given a hearing this aft ernoon. RIVER COAL POUR River coal now being taken from the Susquehanna bottom is not up to HARRISBURQ fiMfll TELEGRAPH the standard of former years, opera tors say. The largely Increased num ber of dredges on the river lead op erators to predict that the supply will be greatly diminished and probably exhausted by the end of this season. Much of the coal formerly washed down the river is now salvaged at the mines. CONSIDER INI RKASH IS COAL FIUCIS!) The price of coal, which will be in creased because of the increase in freight rates, is now being deter mined by the local Fuel Administra tion. Householders who order coal at the old rates but have not yet re ceived it must pay the Increased price when It Is delivered.
