Administrator C. T. A., Or Harrisburg, Pa. CHARLES C. STROH. Attorney. NO "JAMMING" ON STATE PAYROLLS, SAYS MR. SNYDER Auditor General Admits Some Salaries and Some In creases Arc Held Up "Payrolls of departments of this* 1 state's government are not going to be jammed, either in advance of a primary or fit any other time, and men on the rolls may as wall under stand that they will have to render service to the commonwealth if they expect to be paid," said Auditor General Charles A. Snyder to-< Jay when asked about reports that pay rolls of some departments had been held up and that he had refused to pay increases of salary for people* who had been promised raises by persons outside of the state govern ment before the September primary. "I have held up some payrolls, but never mind where. They are being held up pending investigations as to the work really performed and I ani seeking a little information about somo raises in salary. Now that's all there is to say," said the Auditor General. It transpired to-day that payrolls of a couple of departments had been held up, some of them for three months; that increases of pay prom ised to people in the State Insurance Fund ofllces, had not been paid and that activities of inspectors of the Department of Labor and Industry in Philadelphia about primary time last year, were being Investigated. Mr. Snyder is said to have asked why and where increases were authorized and to have declined to make pay ments until he gets information. His action and his remark about "Jam ming" of payrolls are taken to be no tice to the state administration to go slow in making appointments. It also comes at a time when the air is full of reports that numerous removals, including twenty or so in Dauphin County, are to be made in the ab sence of the Governor. Air. Snyder said to-day that people who were concerned over the half million dollars voted to help main tain roads, need not worry. "The money will be given when we are satisfied that it is needed," said he. "Furthermore, Lieutenant Governor McClain, treasurer of the war board will pass upon the matter and the Auditor General will audit after Mr. McClain goes over the expenditures. There will be no scattering of that money. It was all arranged when it was voted how it would be used."
