The student body must aJso observe "stuntless" days. This was announced to-day by President Morgan, head of the local Institution. The usual holidays on Wednesday afternoon and Saturday have been curtailed, a new schedule of classes being added in order that the full course may be carried out and the school closed early in May. To aid in this, it was ordered that there shall be no formal college so cial functions on Friday evenings, as they would interfere with the Saturday program of work. Recently it was ordered that all social func tions should end at midnight. The new decision will still further cur tail activities. Md„ Feb. 7. —Storie* of perilous adventures and narrow escapes from death during the bliz zard which paralysed 'traflic and completely isolated this city and other towns in the valley sinco Monday aro being received here. Twenty-seven passengers were ma rooned on a Baltimore and Ohio train near Roxbury, between hero and Weverton, for twenty hour//, reaching this city almost exhausted. They had been fed on cheese and crackers and hot coffee furnished from a country store. Some members of a female min strel company en route to this city made their bed on a rough box con taining an empty coflln, in the bag gage car, and slept through the night. A freight train was stalled on tlio Cumberland Valley Railroad by a I snowdrift near Williamsport and number of hogs and some cattle were frozen to death. Seven engines brought the train here. The tieup on the four railroads and all branches of the llagerstown and Frederick Railway Company was the worst in years. Passenger trains were annulled on nearly all of the railroads and no cars were operated from Monday until yester day on the trolley lines. The lines to 1' rederick and into Pennsylvania were not opened until to-day. State and county roads are still impassable and rural mail service, which had to be abandoned, is still paralyzed. SURGEON ORDERED TO REPORT Waynesboro, Feb. 7.—Dr. S. B. Thomas has received notice from the War Department to report at Wash ington, D. C., February 15, to take his preliminary army medical course preparatory to entrance into the Army for active service. Dr. Thomas received his commission as first lieu tenant early last fall and is the first Waynesboro physician to enter the service. Union Cavalry Officer Who Was Honored by Congress | CAPTAIN WM. E. MILLER Carlisle. Pa., Feb. 7.—On Monday Captain Williaip E. Miller, of Car lisle, celebrated his 82d birthday an niversary. Captain Miller received many congratulations from all parts of the state. He was a member of the commission in charge of the Gettysburg celebration in 1913 and was a former state senator. It was the action of Captain Mil ler in leading an unauthorized charge at the head of four troops of cavalry to which was ascribed the turning of the tide in favor of the Union forces at Gettysburg.
